It's making me look at somethings I'd rather not know about myself.
Hm. I confess I'm beginning to think we should set someone up with Cookiepuss. . .
I confess that's it's tiem for me to go and that I'm getting a little out of control.

Don't let Bikram Yoga Inc. find out about any heated yoga studio, it will land someone in court.theCryptofishist wrote:Um, she doesn't follow the script exactly and hasn't paid the franchise fee?
BTW the name of the place that had me so confused is "Funky Door Yoga" and I confess it's very cutsey pie. *shudder*

I guess it MIGHT be okay as long as they dont mention the workd Bikram anywhere and they don't use any of his poses in anything like the order he uses them.

that almost sounds fun. who's up?" I’d done yoga before and thought I was reasonably fit but nothing you have ever done before prepares you for bikram yoga. First there’s the room, its hot. Sounds obvious but until you walk into a room heated to 105 degrees you have no idea how hot. After just five seconds you feel the sweat start to prickle on your skin and you get an overwhelming desire to remove your clothing. I can now understand why Bikram takes his classes dressed in nothing but a pair of rather skimpy trunks. The instructor doesn’t so much guide you through the poses as order you through them. Standing at the front with a microphone headset on counting the seconds you have to remain in the poses I feel like I am in yoga boot camp. Ten minutes in and you can’t remember what fresh air felt like. The room has reached Sahara like temperatures and all you can think about is the length of time you have to hold a pose. Hearing the count down that accompanies every posture makes you feel like you are in a really cruel aerobics class. Half an hour through and everyone is glistening like spit roast pigs. It is becoming harder to breathe and the heat has intensified and, become humid with the sweat of 20 people. Every movement induces nausea. You begin to understand why Bikram refers to the room as a torture chamber. The strange thing is that the poses aren’t actually that challenging on the whole, but in the heat everything becomes an effort, even lying down. After about forty minutes it stops being about the yoga and instead becomes a psychological battle between my desire to run out of the room and throw a bucket of ice water over myself and my bloody minded determination to stay in there for the entire 90 minutes. The rest of the class passes in a blur of sweat, nausea and pain. All I want to do is lie down and die quietly. The teacher keeps telling us how many poses we have left and how well we are doing. I feel like I am hallucinating. When we are allowed to lie in savasana I can’t face a moment longer in the room and head to the shower. For the rest of the day I feel like I am going through the menopause as hot flushes alternate between bouts of feeling exceptionally cold. In hindsight I felt that while the class was gruelling, it didn’t give my body the stretch I usually get from an ashtanga class. There seemed to be no real continuity and I really wasn’t sure about the bouncing forward bend that you had to do in between every seated pose – I thought everyone had decided in the 80s that bouncing into a stretch wasn’t good for you at all.

A "Sock" is an eplaya identity that is not an actual real person (whatever that means in this context) but is a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th or lazy8th) identity of someone who is already a member of the board. Socks can be very faithful "yesmen" who always point out how bright and wonderful the boss is, they can be strawmen who argue positions stupidly to show off the clear logic of the boss, they can be elaborate jokes (see woodrow and t4WoaA) or they can be well rounded aspects of main poster--like Isotopia.

Nightterror~
I confess my little girl used to have night terrors, which I didn't understand until I finally got the word from a doctor. She would wake up screaming bloody murder, eyes wide with white and seeing some incredible horror, and thrashing.
When it first started happening, I would try to calm her, and her unseeing/seeing eyes would look through me, now the object of her terror. The fit would escalate. My frantic mind brought words like demonic and possessed out to describe what I saw of my small child's nightmare come to some sort of life. Talking or touching sent it to horrific movie scene level. I had to rush to move things out of her way to keep her from hurting herself. She would scramble and claw trying to get under her bed, away from the threat.
I sought help and information as these became common recurrences. A doctor told me to keep her safe from her physical surroundings and absolutely not to speak or touch her in any way, that they were not uncommon, and that children seemed to outgrow htem, which thankfully, she did.
I confess I don't converse with myself through socks but use them only to be silly in context.

About Nightterrors -
I have had night terrors since I was a child and have only recently began my own research. I am now 41.
My night terrors have escalated the past year to the point that I am, at times, afraid to go to sleep at night. It is a very real disorder. For me personally it includes night sweats where I wake up totally dripping in sweat with no recollection of what happened. Sleep paralysis where my mind wakes up before my body and usually I can't breath (very scary but I have learned to focus on a certain object until it's over and that helps - hard to explain.) And lastly night terrors of horrific porportion where for me usually the world is ending and I wake up screaming this can happen as often as twice a night. Lucky for me my spouse is very understanding. The interesting thing about night terrors is that it happens within moments of falling asleep.
My research has helped me to understand the link between my conscious and subconscious and I would be happy to discuss this further with anyone interested. The simple explanation is that the mind and the body are not processing at the same speed. Also I will add that it is passed from generation to generation. Both of my children suffer from this. And unfortunately it often gets worse as you get older.
I am thinking about having a discussion group at BM05 but I don't know if that would be too cheesy.

It's not always so easy to tell who's a sock puppet and who isn't and who really is generating them. Unlike the transparent obvious socks these are really insidious. Sometimes you will see an apparent sock trolling to stir up controversy or berating an honest poster, or in other ways manipulating the on line community, as some sort of self aggrandizing pathetic grab for attention.
There is always going to be some anonymity to on line interactions, but most of us have an interest in contributing to and building a community that is an extension of the greater Burning Man community. That requires a degree of sharing of our real selves in an honest way.

My heart goes out to you NT; I'm all of a sudden incredibly grateful that she isn't inflicted with this now. Mental illness does run in the family though I'm not aware of any others with this particular disorder. Thanks for sharing. I've never been to BM so I can't speak for what works or doesn't there, but it seems to me where two people have something in common then sharing is always good.
I wish for you peace in your heart and easy rest.
