San Quentin still to this day reminds me of a vacation resort from afar. thankfully that has been my only view of it...
Heck, they could build somewhere else and redo the old building as a luxury lodge. Boat rides to the city. the whole nine yards.

Everytime I pass by there on the Corte Madeira Creek in my co-bucket's boat I think about the cons inside and whether they can even see the view.

Probably not. no windows. Maybe from the exercise yard. You can see precious little from the prison on Alcatraz, a patch of sky maybe.

San Quentin State Prison was built with three-foot-thick walls to hold lawless Gold Rush settlers -- and, over a century later, notorious killer Charles Manson. In 1919, San Francisco journalist Fremont Older described inmates who'd spent time in the legendarily tough facility's "dungeon" and in its "'sash and blind,' the old house of torture."
I'm impressed that back in Gold Rush days they knew that they were gonna need 3 foot walls to hold Charles Manson.
