Let's just say that when the air conditioning breaks, you have to get inventive. After all, Coke is the pause that refreshes.

yep, it is. What a fukn cool place to spin, how was the crowd?

sheesh  , fucking aliens are everywhere, didn't you know that...
The crowd was thin all weekend. The property was huge and there were more camps than people that could fill them. Here is a pic from where I was spinning.

Damn!!!!!! What time of year is that, is that festival happening again, and are you going to spin there again if so?

It was over July 4th weekend, hence the low turnout. I think they are skipping this years fest and will hopefully pick up again next year. If they get the same property I will be a happy person. I will definitely be there when it happens again. I am friends with some of the organizers. Good people with a great vision. The event is call "Phoenix Festival" their site can be found at http://www.phoenixfest.com alot of the guys who put on the event have been Burners for a long while and carry forth a lot of the same ethos.

I was fortunate and hooked up with the 1derland stage. We used no funding and organized fundraisers. It is amazing what a collective idea can inspire.

Ick.

The problem with PheonixFest is that (at least the first year) a bunch of burners went out there to get their 'burn on'. A group of us cacos showed up in costume, ready to be weird. While being alluded to as a 'burner' style party- it was basically a music festival with tents. Our group of about a dozen folks got sick of the weird stares from our odd costuming and left before nightfall.

Kenalicious and others are trying to change that initial perception to bring more art and weirdness into it. If they succeed, then I think it could get some serious crowds back. Give me a 'heads up' ifins you see more than a couple theme camps or more than 1% of the people in playa gear.

Ken, has a love for this event and I think he is pushing in the right direction. I offer to help but am usually treated like the dumb kid who is only allowed to pass out flyers. After we put together our stage with no financial help from Phoenix Fest and the other stages came close to using their budgets in whole and then some I think the next one we might be asked to be a little more involved. At least I hope so. We managed this year to draw a great burner crowd to our area and it makes me proud. We even hosted a nice little tea party complete with giant edible mushroom and all. There were so many things about Phoenix Fest this year that really showed it is a festival rave but I also saw a lot of possibility to become more. There is so much potential there.

PS Rob, watch out for those vending machines. There are so many chemicals used around here it would not suprise me how contaminated the vending machines are. You would not want the twig and berries to be mistaken for chex mix.

An email to my boss

Post by Donita » Sun Jan 16, 2005 3:29 pm

Hi _______,
My babysitting fees are going to be going up. You will need to increase my
salary accordingly. Also, I need a set of earplugs for the screaming nurses
on the floors and for that witch from Med Clinic who screamed at me (again). Can you please throw in a bull-horn, so I can scream back at them? A prescription for Xanax or Thorozine might be helpful. These are my immediate needs and requests. If I do not get them, it's not my fault if I go postal. Thank you. All joking aside, I really do need to talk to you about a few issues.

i work as a (notice i don't say i am a - ) receptionist. when people try to call this company, they call to my phone. no one else's.

goddamn, people. i don't care if you happen to be behind my desk (WHERE YOU SHOULDN'T BE ANYWAY BECAUSE NOT ONLY IS IT UNPROFESSIONAL, IT CREEPS ME OUT WHEN PEOPLE LURK BEHIND ME!!!) when the phone call is for you. No, you may not use my phone to take your goddamn call. There's one within a few paces of here. Jesus! Do you understand how much harder it is for me to answer the phone if you are on it? I WILL hang up the damn phone on you if you do these things. I don't give a shit about your personal call that you feel a need to take in such a way that my face is in your armpit and i have to crane back in my chair.

USE YOUR OWN GODDAMN PHONE!!!!!

Fuckers.

Well, they don't want me on the team, but they do want me to pick up the slack for the lazy fuckers that they do have on the team. They ask me to work overtime because people have to pick up their kids, stay home hung over, go to the freakin' doctor's office (I don't get medical, but they do) and generally fuck off...

Sure, I'd be happy to work overtime... more than happy, I'd be ecstatic, delirious, manic... mutha fucka's...

My work annoyance today is with work itself. Will everyone just fucking make up your MINDS? Is MLK's B'day a holiday or not? K and the kids have the day off, I don't. Big assed party last night because "Monday is a holiday" ... yeah, for about 60% of the population it seems. I got home at about 5:00am ... Sam ... will you work over and cover for me?

Work annoyances? Yeah, how about the entire "executive" (this word used in this context to convey only that they outrank me) level of this relatively small family owned business, who seem to think that all that's required to be a professional or to be professional is the ability to buy office supplies.

If the people here were any more clueless, they might just spontaneously combust.

how's this one:

I work for the evil cellphone company. which means, they have my mobile phone number. If I don't answer on the work phone, they'll call my cell, and then get mad if I don't answer (am away from the phone, screening calls, battery's dead, etc.)

blech.

hows this?

just talked to my mom. she's a NICU nurse. she'd picked up an extra shift last week, which makes for a long week already. then the scheduler fucked up her pattern - she's having her day off and the hospital calls up and tells her she's supposed to be there.

72 hours of work in 8 days. not good when you're talking about life and death decisions.

I've got one.........
We have calender parking here. Which means every sunday night you switch your car to the other side of the street! These who-haws can't figure that out! Then to make matters worse, it snows and they don't plow the snow all the way back to the curbs- they leave it several feet away! THEN people who are parking legally (but uncaringly) on the correct side of the street for the week, park right across the street from the bad car and now you can't get through the street! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!
So the theme this year is like a giant camp out in the desert? With people bringing lots of shit from all over? uh.. -Marscrumbs

i didn't want to say anything on here... i had put it safely on the table. when i went to leave it was gone, and i was so distraught! of course, hearing about the state of the kitchen it's probably no wonder.

but i didn't want you to think i don't love it, or that i didn't give a shit. cause i do, and i did.

my work annoyance for today:

working until four am or later and then turning around and doing another shift same day. That's not the annoying part. No, the annoying part is my affinity for taking the non-stop work just because it's there and I can...

WTF??

A woman just came in and demanded that I use my store's fedex account to ship off a package that she had.

"can you fedex this for me?" (as she hands me little package)

"um, no."

"why not?"

(pointing) "there's a fedex drop box with all the stuff you'll need right across the street. I can't mail your package for you with my STORE account, though. Sorry."

"FINE."

Is there some sort of memo circulating about that it's Be Rude Day?

i don't get it.
