Why does my goldfish eat its own poo?

I feed them plenty. I need to know cuz it's kinda grossing me out.

Any ideas?

Are'nt they supposed to do that? I thought goldfish were supposed to be like catfish. it's what they're supposed to do.

Maybe you feed them such raunchy stuff that they prefer shit.
Maybe you should learn to cook, or take them out to a nice place.

They nibble shit because they can, or they're bored, or simply, they're fish with tiny little brains that can't tell the difference between shit and food. Oh, wait, that's half my family.

Goldfish indeed a form of Carp and are omnivorous scavengers as apposed to carnivorous scavengers like Hyenas. Gold fish don't laugh nearly as loud as Hyenas either, but are pretty easily amused. They can spend hours sucking on gravel in the bottom of a tank to munch on bacteria and algae they can get off from it. Live plants are usually a big favorite because they can rearrange there living space as the rip them out of the bottom striping them of soft foliage. But they do get bored and there is just something that seems interesting about that piece of poop particularly if it is trailing from one of there buddies. It can apparently be a habit forming treat, I've seen dominant fish suck on the butts of fish after the string is gone. Hyenas just sniff each others butts as far as I know.
