Newport, Rhode Island and this was my first burn.

I'll probably be back unless the Rainbow Gathering conflicts with the schedule.

well that answers my question

Post by chickenfish » Fri Sep 19, 2003 4:24 pm

like pulling teeth...I guess you can't expect a straight answer from burners...I guess I was kind of wondering what the life expectancy of the average black rock citizen is...I've noticed people who this was their first year, people who've been there since 96,98,99,00,01...anyone here been going longer? At what point does it lose its power and you move on to other experiences that are new again?

A 3 legged chicken fish and a cow sticking his nose in.. WTF is that...someone else's butt? Another cow?

I need to find me a nice pic to photo-shop and use.

I've been going to BM since 00'.

No, at the time he posted that Johnny Asscroft was here in KC explaining how the Patriot Act was not violating American's civil rights. At the same time the KC Water department reported a tremendous increase in the amount of effluent streaming into the system....possibly caused by the all the bullshit he was feeding the media and the public with.

On the one hand, that guy (Asscruft) is gettin' scarier all the time. On the other, there's no shortage of manure. Tough call.

Kansas City, Missouri / 2003 was my second trip to BRC. I learned of the event in 99, thought of it again in 2000, watched the webcast of the burn in 2001 and cried because I wasn't there and I knew I should be. I made it in 2002, now 2003 and I still feel the same. BRC is home.

Went in 97, 98, 99, and 03 (but left early)

Decided to go in 04, but on my own terms this time- not with a camp.

Had just moved from a desert drier, hotter, and more remote than Black Rock (30 miles from Death Valley for 12 years) to Portland when I went the first time. Kept wondering why people were freaking out that I was drinking beer during the day. "I know I can get dehydrated. Trust me, you be will long before anything happens to me. Thanks anyway though."

I'm a curious fucker

Post by chickenfish » Mon Sep 22, 2003 3:00 pm

I just happen to be curious. I know some people who have been going since the early 90's and still love it, and some people who are over it, some people who have been over it since the early 90's. I first heard of the event around 94 from a friend who had been going who assured me that the good days were gone. So I never went. Until in 99 a friend dragged me out there to help him with an art project, and I was hooked. I did five years straight, with art projects and theme camps, and now I think i am done with it. How about you?

'95 was my first year, and I skipped '02 for a variety of reasons:

- I had planned to finally visit Europe, but life had other ideas
- I needed the break, and it was a good thing (tm)
- The space weasles told me if I went, they would feast upon my mother's spleen
- An angel of the lord came unto me as I lay sleeping, and spoke unto me, "Thou must skip a year, or thou shalt be damned to an eternity of hearing Britany Spears and Back-sync boys songs played upon Tuba by an unholy army of naked Strom Thurman clones."
- I was going through a bad breakup with Larry Harvey, and didn't want to see him or his damn hat.
- Glitter camp had a contract out on my life for playing loud rage rock at 9am daily the year before.
- Gigsville had at least 10 contracts out on my life for introducing the Matt Shaw problem into thier midst back in '98, and I was getting really tired of dodging the bullets.

But mostly I just wanted to take a year off.

Strange thing about having 8 years under my belt, is that all of them are very very distinct. I would have thought the memories would have begun to merge and mingle together somehow, like the playa dust has into just about everything I own.

In reply to Blyslv's post: (and for those who don't know)

Not that it matters but my command of English has slipped. I'm still in recovery mode from a car accident in 2001. I have good days and bad, and my math skills and some parts of my English skills royally suck. But I've over compensated in others which offsets it nicely.

So any grammar comments will be politely ignored...I do have a problem, I try hard to correct it, and if it offends anyone I apologize for it. I have other things that are more important to work on fixing, the lost command of English will return in time.

Injury Reserve...a remarkable concept indeed!

Interesting how the brain re-builds itself. I had a relative who lost full speech and mathmetical ability due to brain damage from a stroke. He slowly recovered many things, but there are oddities. For instance, he can count money, but has no ability to identify an individual coin or dollar bill.

Oh, just to keep on thread... 98, 99, 00, 01. Skipped 02 and back in 03. Bay area.
