YAY! *keeps fingers crossed* (Though why d'you need a DMV printout for what I thought was a stationary job?)

I'll survive. I'm sure this cough is gonna take the rest of the month, and possibly longer, to really go away, but the sinus headaches and most of the stuffiness are all gone. I really ought to rouse myself enough to go make use of the hot-tub gift certificate I got as a wintergift...that'd help, no doubt.

ach. purple, you should SEE the shit we have to go through to get this stupid little retail job:

1)personality survey, then, if you pass:
2)interview, then, if you pass:
3)application, then, if you pass:
4)approval by regional manager and HIS manager, then, if you pass:
5)drug test, then, if you pass
6)background check, then, if you pass:
7)driving record (they check for things like vehiclular homicide, DUI, things like that), then, if you pass:
8)you MAYBE get hired.

all this to work for mininum wage plus commission.

it's sick, really.

and all of those things take a couple of days or so to process, you know? It's not a fast process, by any means. I've been working solo since Jan 1.

Hmm...

drink. No, many. Plural. DRINKS...

whiskey, please?

Now, to this day, that ocean is still making just as much noise, but just 50 miles from it and try to hear the waves. It's still there, but it's both drowned out by the subconscious drone of autos, planes and factories. We tune it out along with all the other white noise that pollutes our ears every day.
I read in a book (Colis Wilson perhaps?) that arabs were able to see stars during the day. I actually sat and watched the sunrise and watched Sirius and trained myself to see it for that morning at least--but you really have to look right at it. Wiered.

A person who would go through all that must be high, and thus fail the drug test. What kind of mouth breathing robots do you end up hiring there GE?

ummm... well.... Stuart, when I had been unemployed for a couple of months, living (quite literally) on rice and water for over 2 weeks and about to be evicted in a city where I knew only one other person (who was living with me and would have been evicted too), just about anything is worth going through.

please don't misunderstand. I think we are living in a horrible state if folks have to jump through those kinds of hoops, suffer that kind of outlandish humiliation, in order to get a gig that keeps you living below the poverty line. My heart goes out to you. Fucking personality tests. Fuck. What a bunch of fucking corporate snake oil.
