Deep in the isle of the French Tahitian waters in the village of Renegat, a magical tribal girl, Lucent, beats a lone drum for her aching heart. The tribal leaders have cast the boy she loves to sea. His crime is a love so fierce he is unable to work, unable to focus on anything but the beauty of Lucent. He rows his tiny banana boat through the rugged waters of the great Pacific. He never wanders too far away, he swirls in the deep and delirius sea, he stays close enough to feel the beating of her drum, the beating of her drum.
