We metalcasting and welding types LOVE those coats, and covet them. Check your neighborhood surplus store for a liner, specifying one with sleeves, or if you're feeling spendy take it to a tailor.

Thanks I will check out the surplus store. And hopefully someone will have one. It's gotta be thin though because it's tight in the shoulders. And no one in their right mind is gonna want to tailor it to make it wider.

J fish, clear tubes in lighting. it,s safty cover for light tubes. comes in two sizes. i don't know how many lengh sizes.

Oh chaps yes. But do test out the reverse of the fabric against your skin. in general, chaps do have a few bindy places and faux fur is not always soft on both sides. Cowboy style chaps may be more comfortable playa wear than biker style chaps, try to look over both types before preparing a pattern.

There's a reason I know these things.

This looks great. Do you intend for it to look like it's riding on your shoulders, or will the wearer be concealed under some cloth?

J fish, At the Or. county fair they parade 8-10ft. puppets. They are draped to the ground to cover puppetears. You might drop in on there site.

They oughta still fit. larry has matching ones, and I have a wonderful story about the Rising Sons and the Hashballs holiday party in Yokohama and the japanese guys hitting on my oblivious man ... hehehe. Yes, it involves the navy, furry handcuffs, and really, really drunk.

BTW, getting my chaps out these days is a threat not an enticement.

Thanks, Sputnik. I think the operator will have face concealed by a custom mask made my Kernul Killbuck, and wearing black clothing as not to distract from the piece especially at night. The way we are rigging this with double-core el wire, nobody is going to walk into it.

As we build the frame I am finding the weight is a major concern, especially at the top of the structure. If I can find a way to extend some ski poles for the operator to hold up the arms, that will be cool.

I am planning on spending a day in giesha drag after haveing a great hallowen experience as trixy the vegas giesha. My wife won't let me use her antique silk kimono on the playa so I am sewing my own. I have two design choices I might make it out of snow or sand camoflage cloth but if anyone cantell me where I can buy some knock-off burberry plaid fabric and maybe some guichi fabric for the obi I would love to go that direction.

A darn good idea....I may have to build an aircon unit and bring the suit out again this year. I brought it last year, but didn't bring the "suit part" of the suit (a winterweight mechanic's coverall) because I thought that I'd roast in it. Big mistake!! I could have REALLY used it on those thirty-degree nights! Eventually I'll have to make a hot AND cold version- Maybe an Aluminet coverall for daytime.....

I've been sitting here thinking about the same thing...and at 6'5" it's a pain to find costume stuff. I've got small butterfly wings but they don't look that good. And I'm more technical than creative on making things. So I'm going to echo DallasPlaya's question ...no I'll flat out ask. HELP!!! I can't think of anything that's good! And I've looked over the theme and looked through the image gallery and some burner websites for inspiration. It's just not happening.

Sounds like a GREAT Cowboy-Jackasaurus-Angelbunny-Mothra costume!
Sequins are frowned upon in many circles for their high MOOP potential...But if you can GUARANTEE that they'll stay put, I say GO FOR IT. I, for one, have many volumes of praise for GOOP adhesive. It will fasten nearly ANYTHING to just about ANYTHING ELSE. (See "The Poop on GOOP" thread for details ad nauseum.)

Wings sans feathers are simpler than you think: wire coat hangers bent into shape, stretch panyhose over the frame and spray paint. You can get non-moopy glitter fabric paint that adheres well at most craft stores. Add shoulder straps and you're done.

Sequins and mirrors can be attached with 3-D fabric paint, it comes in lots of colors and textures, pearl, shiny, metallic, glow in the dark, glitter ... I use mine on much more than material. Sort of like an artsy-fartsy version of Goop.

Tall men look great in skirts, kilts, sarongs, and so on, length doesn't really matter. A sarong made of fabulous scrap fabric can double as a cape, so hit the remnant sales! No sewing involved if you find something that doesn't shed. 2 yards should do ya.

Shiny boxer shorts, the man-whore type sold as gifts in large retail malls, great for lounging.

When it comes to costumes, these articles from Piss Clear on playa fashion, especially the Dont's section have been sticking in my mind and are guiding me this year. I'm going to have a lot of necklaces and maybe even a made up laminate or three. Anyway here's the links, look for yourself as it's good info.

I was thinking more of large "sequins" (more like small mirrors) then the tiny ones everyone probably thinks of as moop...

I love the way the Indians (subcontinent) attach mirrors to thier clothes, the little "pocket" made out of thread that is the sewing. (pathetic explaination--bettter try google image)

may help. I'm sure it's a lot of work.

eta: or if you can find those metal spangles that are shiney with holes you could do some solid wire work and sew those on...
