I love Hawaii. Lived there as a kid on Oahu for a year (1967?). Went back in 1996 and spent 10 funfilled glorious days in Kauai. Ate, drank, partied, slept, ate, drank, partied, slept. Auntie Ono's has the most fantastic coconut/banana pancakes, drizzled with coconut syrup, sprinkled with oodles of macadamia nuts. Fuck, now I'm hungry.

It was an approximation. I had a Margarita once and I swear the glass had like a gallon in it. I only managed to drink about 2 inches of it!

I love it. And it seems the perfect segue for something I've been thinking about for a while....

My original online hangout was the Usenet incarnation of Spider Robinson's Callahan's Crosstime Saloon novels, and an Internet Relay Chat channel of the same nature (with a lot of crossover between participants). It was, quite simply, a bar where anything could (and usually did) happen. (Case in point: The IRC channel was where the ex and I re-discovered one another...after having been in school together twenty years previously....) I stopped hanging out there a couple of years ago - it stopped feeling like "home," somehow.

And all of a sudden, it appears to have reinvented itself here, in this thread.

So I offer a toast: To Mike Callahan and his wonderful bar, which seems to find you when you need it....

Z, if it's on a work night then I won't be able to go. I get off work at 6pm and go get up at 5am. Weekends are a possibilty though.

And yeah, the MI group is working on plans for this year. I'm sorta not so into it since I (I won't say it) going this year.

we are trying to put together something for a weekend in spring a camping trip fairly close to the cities. we'll see if we have enough people interested enough to really make it happen.

The dark clouds will part and a golden beam of light will shine on you ( and me too ) and bestow us with the financial means to make to the playa.
