where the hell did everyone go? are you all composing long, thought-out posts?

Have you ever seen "The Magic Christian," GE?

GE... knowing you what little bit I do, I’m betting you don’t take anything you don’t want to and you've got it under control. How’s about another dark, dark porter, hmmm?

RG... I posted a book some time back in the "...reading?" thread that you might enjoy. James Still was the author. Truely wonderful grasp for the english language.

Just beautiful.

I can't ever imagine learning enlish as a second language.... my old roommate was in Taiwan, teaching ESL, and she constantly had to explain all of the idiocyncracies of the english language to a group of15-18 year olds....

AntiM gave me a book called "The Stories of English" for Winter-een-mas this year, a history of the English Language. I can't wait to start into it. I have to finish one of the other three i'm reading first. Three books simultaneously is my limit.

Yeah... I’ve got a stack of books in my “Currently Reading” pile, place markers sticking out here and there. I don’t even want to look at the “To Read” pile.

Exemple Gracie: Put any related verb/noun combination into the following format: "I'd like to [verb] her [noun].

Non-native speaker: "Wait, what? How can that be sexual? 'I'd like to taste her grandmother's stew?' That's not dirty, is it?"

I have a "to read" ROOM. I've got about 1600 volumes, in my library (and climbing) and have only read about half of them. I've found that if I use currency (especially a ten-dollar or greater bill) as a bookmark, I'm more motivated to finish the book and reclaim the bookmark, and much less likely to mislay the book. One of the many coping mechanisms I've developed to deal with my rampant forgetfulness. I've lost some of my most important books.

Great film, very absurdist, starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. Go find it. It'll knock your socks (and other underthings) off.

It was good. I had to help a friend of a friend weld together a steel beam for a home under construction. Something I don’t usually do, but I make concessions sometimes. Besides, the home owner wants a metal balustrade so I got my foot in the door on a new job. It was kinda nice to be outside working for a change. Got my boots muddy even... been a long time.

sorry for my sudden reticence. I've discovered I missed this week's update at the JREF.

Not when you're at the bottom of a bottle of good port, without another to take its place. I don't want to switch to hard liquor, so all I can do is wait for the glow to fade.

oh dear... I fear I’ve reached the bottom of my glass and must be off. I’ve got to get to work in the morning, helping finish up the previously mentioned field work and it starts at 8am. So I’d better be going. Throughly enjoyed the company, however and hope to do it again soon.

Good night guys and gal!!!
