Your Favorite/good free/cheap comp prog recommendations?
Over the years I've found a few progs I use regularly, most free- (why pay for expensive bloatware that doesn't work as well?) my favorite I've just discovered that AUTOMATICALLY (as opposed to how I used to have to do it, manually, one slice at a time, select, name, save, ugh) chops long audio files into smaller more easily navigable tracks for your ipod, iriver, or whatever, is mp3directcut, available for FREE at http://www.mpesch3.de/
It also has silence detection that actually works, normalization, lots of other cool stuff.
Next on shopping list; prog that works like a vcr to record webcasts- anyone know of a good free one that will open the streaming link, so you could set it and forget it without having to manually open the stream, (which kinda defeats the purpose)?
Another good source for small, efficient apps is http://www.tinyapps.org

Note: I grab radio streams and then go back over the playlists to figure out what new music to buy on CD. I have found all kinds of new (to me) groups, labels, etc... and am spending much more $$ on music than before. Make that $$$. Among my finds: Mono, The Organ, Joseph Nothing, Nobukazu Takemura, Vesna--Are they playing this shite on my local AOR station? Guess again.

I am trying xACT for audio file conversions in OS X, it seems decent. The Merman show from Lossless that I listened to yesterday sounded great. Mp3s do bite donkey dick, it's true.
