I hate early meetings
I hate early meetings at mock ups more
I hate early meetings at mock ups even more when Scott was down from SF the night before and I was up late socializing.
I hate early meetings at mock ups followed by lunch meetings at mock ups such that you have to drive back and forth to the mock up twice in the same day when you are a little bit sleepy.

still, I am very thankful, in light of the eplaya epidemic, that I have good work.

Dam right Stuart, It's amazing how a person can start missing those stupid meetings, and the interaction between collaborators.

I always thought the mid-afternoon meetings were worse for trying to stay awake.

GE: Are they at least giving you some sort of severance package? (Or would that be considered too classy for them to consider?)

Damn! Today we were notified we need to turn in a timecard daily so our boss (who does not have access to the worksite) can keep a better check on us. Everyone at this site is on time and gets their work accomplished. This manager is just trying to assert his corporate position and exert some non-physical pushing to keep us in line.

So tell me. Does anyone have an interesting way I can fuck with the manager while still following policy?

Submit a timecard hourly?

Ask what the job code for elimination of bodily waste is?

Write down your time to the milisecond?

Include time spent blinking in the above?

And if anyone should ever call your workplace looking for your boss, you should always answer "I have no idea where he is, he never shows up here."

That one won't work here. The company I am contracted to will not give him clearance to come on site. He absolutely hates it.

Spend so much time recoding each ball scratch that there's no time to accomplish work?

Make every other entry 'recorded time on time sheet'?

carefully read over workplace policies for every little extra/benefit type thing you are allowed (and even ones that aren't explicitly restricted...) and ask for one every day.

We have two people who already do this and it is not as effective as I would think it would be.

Work hasn't been annoying enough lately to post here, besides that there are many other things I'd rather be doing and places I'd rather be hanging than here.

So a pleasant work-ism: Last month we got this new business development dude. I've decided that he's fucking fabulous. He's a wee bit awkward, in that endearing sort of way. He always looks slightly crazed, overworked already with trying to pick up the pieces. He likes graphic novels, he used to play violin (and has decided to take up the uke), he gets his hair cut at Rudy's. He doesn't act like i'm a commedienne, and is the sort who'd appreciate a good recommendation for just about anything. He laughs. He does normal human things, like rolls his eyes. He even knows Decorah. His mother was a rosemauler (how do you really spells that?) He's not a snooty bastard, even though he's one of the only folks with an office here. Maybe it all has something to do with being new in this part of the country. Sometimes the new folks need a little more help, and so they value you more. I dunno. But he's definitely a good addition.

Yeah for whoever chose to hire the new guy. And yeah for being the person that people count on for this little shit sometimes.. because as annoying as it can be, it's really nice to be personally helpful to someone, help 'em get settled in and have a face to recognise and everything.

Yup. I'm not annoyed.

This is for my brother.

So my bro is a computer dude. He works with computers. At a university. His old work station was too low. His new one is too high. They refuse to send him to the ergonomics eval people. His chair doesn't even go up and down.

He went to a doc today. He's got carpal tunnel. Not. Good.

So they finally got him a new chair at work, but still don't want to send him to the ergo people.

I'm so fucking calling OSHA on their asses. He's what, 26?? A little too early in the career for a debilitating injury.

Fuck. I'm pissed. Maybe I'll go give the fuckers a piece of my mind. I hate it when people fuck with my family.

My poor mom calls me worrying about how all three of us kids are at varying levels of sick-and-in-pain this week. I need to find the 'off' switch for that worry function.

I sometimes wonder how many people who run shovels and picks and walk around outside get things like carpal tunnel?

Not sure, but I remember reading some bits and pieces about the slave burial ground they found in Manhatten a few years back and some of the fractures and other work related injuries that the skeletons had. Housemaid's knee and washerwoman's elbow sound like possible repetitive stress injuries to me too.

And just remember when he climbed that building in Safety Last, Buster Keaton was missing parts of two or three fingers from his childhood on the farm.

Think about the people working in slaughter houses. Carpal tunnel is a big problem there (or it used to be), in combination with the other obvious dangers.

My dad worked in one for a summer and said he'd rather pump shithouses the rest of his life than have to do that again.

You're right Zane, that's a big issue in the immigrant population who are doing it these days too.

from ancient egypt:
Thousands of people were buried at Abydos between the Predynastic period and Greco-Roman era, giving it the potential to provide us with a portrait of a population over some 3,500 years.
<snip>
Middle Kingdom burials from the North Cemetery have also yielded a wealth of information. Childhood nutritional stress was ubiquitous, contributing to short adult stature. Men averaged 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and women, 5 feet, 1 inch. People in their late teens show wear and tear in their skeletons associated with repetitive stress such as carrying heavy loads. Infectious disease was prevalent.

Whoops forgot the url
In general, the frequency of knee arthritis was low for those nomadic people living hunter gatherer lifestyles.4 Osteoarthritis of both knees were particularly common in Queensland coastal women and were attributable to the high level mechanical stress involved in gathering shellfish where the women dug their feet into the thick mud looking for shellfish, producing a strong twisting mechanical strain on the knee joint.
