To Register or Not to Register...That is the Question.

Post by MissNev » Tue Feb 01, 2005 12:26 pm

2005 will be my 8th burn, and I am part of an ever growing camp. This will be the 6th year with our bar. We have 16-20 people with our group, but we have never been a registered theme camp. I'm looking for some pros and cons to registering this year, and I would like to hear from other registered camps regarding their experience.

Thanks.

There was a lively debate on this topic last year in a thread. Try a search for it.

In the meantime, I always lean toward registration because it gives you a known quantity. One less thing to worry about when you arrive. Beats the hell out of relying on playa info or the messageboard to get all your people together. Now, you do have to do some early planning to get your shit in a pile for the org but at the very least it gets you motivated sooner. The time between when you file your info and your arrival seems very short.

I'm specifically wondering if each person associated with our camp needs to be pre-registered. We always seem to get some last minute joiners. Do we need to have specific hours of operation, or do we need to post hours of operation at all?

Regarding the clean up plan, how involved is this? I have some people interested in the planning aspect, I just don't know how detailed this has to be.

I believe that you have to say how many people are in your camp (so that they can make sure the space requested is appropriate, depending on your requested location). I don't think you have to list names unless you want to arrive early - in that case, each registered camp has to pre-clear the early arrivals with the BM gate team (and this must be done fairly early , say July timeframe...)

As far as planning, look up some of the theme camps from previous years, go to their websites, and look at what they did...

Reading all the info on this page and its related links should answer most of your questions. The actual questionaire isn't posted yet for this year, but probably will be soon. Looking at that will tell you exactly what you'll need to tell BM to get registered.

Clean-up plans aren't difficult. Read several on other theme camp websites and cut and paste portions as appropriate to cleaning up after whatever it is that your camp will be doing.
