Well, I suppose it is a good problem to have. I am glad to hear that she has a better job and her experiance with eplaya helped her land it. That is such a great thing to hear when for so long there have been so many stories of tech workers going in the opposite direction here in the Bay Area.
Congratulations TP and here is wishing you all the best in the future.

Techcnopatra, I'm happy for you, and sad for us you have become a real part of our lives here on e-playa. The bright side is the hope you will feel freer to join us as one of us with out the weight of the feeling that you represent "Burning Man Organization".
We'll do fine in Emily's very competent hands as a referee.
Thanks for everything !

Aw geez, you guys are making me cry over here...
so here's the thing...
I'd been doing the same thing for 3 years on the playa. Going for 3 weeks, doing Cafe setup (furniture, decor & art, not DPW), and cleanup. I've camped in the Cafe Village the whole time, which admittedly, has evolved beautifully and really rocked out as the bestest working-class neighborhood on the playa.
It was a combinatio of factors, but in 2004...honestly...I had kind of an average time. There, I said it. The work felt like work and there was no payoff. I enjoyed my interactions with loal Nevadans in Gerlach and beyond more than most of the participants I came across. I totally take responsibility for trying so hard to go without expectations that I overshot the mark and went without intent. So..nothing amazing manifested.
No real serious dramas, many fun times, but frankly, it just didn't feel worth it. I didn't have the worst time ever, it's just that nothing so-fantastically-terrific happened....
I didn't have that one moment where I went "wow. This is why I'm here. Everything is right with the universe because at this moment in time, I am where I should be."
I don't blame Burning Man as so many whiny fucks do ...
(Hey, I can say whiny fucks! woohoo!)
...and if I went, it'd still be up to me to make Burning Man happen. I just quite literally don't know how to do Burning Man without working anymore. I don't know what I could bring to the party. I don't know what I want to get out of it, or put into it.
I'm thinking maybe Italy instead. I dunno.

You know something, not to say me too but I felt the same way 12 years ago and went to Paris to live for the next year.technopatra wrote:

Getting a life is important. But the thing is for me is I wanted to find out if I could reach that high at BM again this year after being away for so long and now I'm having second thoughts.
For one, it's much bigger than when I was there last and I think the crowd may have changed too much for me. I still know a bunch of people that are really cool that still go and are going this year but I'm feeling funny.
Not a Burningman problem and not mine, I am just starting to feel that I need something totally new.
Which is why I'm trying to stick with my plans and go anyway.
If you've never been to Italy before then go I say.

Makes a lot of sense. (Damn, i guess the boat and ice cream and eplayans weren't enough!) I'd rather have you happy and in our lives in some way than just have you on the playa.
It's really nice to hear you call people fucks. I knew you had it in you.
Sometimes I think people make the event itself the end goal. It's entirely possible to go to the event and get little out of it, or get nothing out of it that you couldn't get elsewhere. The event isn't always the best choice for someone. Follow those little sparkly things in the corner of your eye. Someday they may lead you back to playa, you never know.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.........
We though of you...
tears flow from our eyes as you pack your bags,
We immerse ourselves in other things as you wave good-bye,
our heart grows heavier as you get in the car and close the door,
our mind races to conclusions as you start the engine,
our blood is pounding in my temples as you adjust the rear view mirror,
We are beside ourselves as you back down the driveway.
fear wells up inside us as you drive down the street,
our inner child screams and hollers as you disappear into the distance,
you left us here and got another job how could you do this?
now we just sit here and think of you...

Yeah, somehow going to the festival simply because that's what you always do is so "unburningman."Rian Jackson wrote:Sometimes I think people make the event itself the end goal.
