Hey Badger, have a great weekend.
<cringe>
Naw, that's just the approx. number of addicts that can't stop posting and have ready access to the Internet 24/7.25 members of 3playa

Sort of like here.
Sounds like you've got a beef with people that you hardly know and are having trouble separating your issues with some individuals from other people.
And even those won't tell you what the silent majority thinks of the whole thing.theCryptofishist wrote:Are there stats on how many people log in, and how many log in multiple times a week and how many log in and read and how many exchange pms without posting? Because a lot of this is really just speculation without that kind of information.
True some may be socks but have you ever thought that maybe some of those driveby's my feel unconfortable wanting to post here on eplaya for fear of being sniped at or being called asshat?Rian Jackson wrote:I lack hard evidence, but it seems to me that the core of posters on 3playa is of similar size to here. Perhaps even larger (?), much of it more constant with more longevity.
It may have fewer lurkers, though there are plenty, I'm sure.
What eplaya almost certainly has is more drive-bys - folks who come by once in a blue moon but aren't really invested/don't post. Ever notice how many folks on the member list have zero posts?
True. I was after apparent utility not a survey.Rian Jackson wrote:And even those won't tell you what the silent majority thinks of the whole thing.theCryptofishist wrote:Are there stats on how many people log in, and how many log in multiple times a week and how many log in and read and how many exchange pms without posting? What the hell are you talking about and how the hell did you get that from what I posted?Rian Jackson wrote:We were talking about formatting, were we not?
Are you indicating that you would prefer to make vague slights and character attacks? Because I'd rather not engage in that; it's rhetorically and intellectually weak.
Now, which conversation do you want to have, DVD?
I continued in that vein:what ever is done with eplaya you will still either not be happy or ETF will implement /follow your lead to make eplaya in the end,
You quoted ST regarding technical stuff:I'd like what he's done with that board - the way he takes care of it, the way he lets other people take care of it. It's very well done.
Then you talked of behaviour:I really like the eplaya just the way it is- the colours, the fonts, the way messages are displayed and organized, the way the pm's work. This is the best functioning message board I have ever used- not that I am a message board fiend or anything, just sayin'.
But returned immediately to the technical:Most are afraid to say anything to the likes of Badger and the other
Maybe a timmed edit would have allowed me to fix the above posts.
And then, when i pointed it out, you insulted me- the same thing that you accuse everyone else of doing.along with a spellchecker.
As far as I can tell, the eplaya is fulfilling it's purpose as stated- it's a pretty broad statement that encompasses almost anything (except those things expressly against the TOS and Guidelines). The ePlaya exists to support the Burning Man community.
In order to do so, it must support the interests of ongoing ePlaya community members who may have a variety of interest that they bring to this forum that may be only peripheral to the actual Burning Man event. This also includes those Burning Man community members who only briefly interact online, and those who are joining the community and wish to gain an understanding of it.
BWWWAAAAAAAA!!!!! Ok Ok OKRian Jackson wrote:

I know my purpose here is solely to amuse myself. But I generally hang out in the General Discussion section for that purpose.III wrote: what's the purpose of the eplaya?
you are in a class of your own, carpet spine. Or you're in a cum-munityRob the Wop wrote:I know my purpose here is solely to amuse myself. But I generally hang out in the General Discussion section for that purpose.III wrote: what's the purpose of the eplaya?
Why here? This board? Liked-minded folks that share a common bond with me.
Others? Possibley to present a media whereas people that share a common bond can communicate online.
BTW. I think a new pet peeve of mine is the overuse of the word 'community'. In some ways it has replaced the capitalized word 'Art' as a means to show pretentiousness. I take a perverse pleasure in being told that I am not 'Building Community' when I do something that some frickin' hippy doesn't like.

Ok,GuinivereElise wrote:for me, the eplaya exists as a way for me to have daily interaction with like-minded people that I would not, on a daily, or perhaps even weekly or monthly, basis have contact with. It is a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on, a group of friends to laugh with, different viewpoints to hear, learn from, debate about, a place where I grow and change, a place where I get to be myself, a place where I can speak my mind, be inspired, be angered, learn learn learn. Through this board, I have met people who have changed my life, in many many ways, that I would probably never have EVER met on the playa. I magically re-found an old friend, and just as magically created new and amazingly deep friendships. Some of the most influential people in my life right now exist only on this board, and it acts as a way for me to have discourse, actual meaningful discourse, with them. I am entertained and I entertain. It's a give and take, in all respects.
