It seems that the bar here is rather prodigius and newcomers are overwhelmed by it (maybe) and think that the eplaya is silly because so much time is spent pretending to drink.

The Bar thread can never be replaced. The chat is just another facet of communications.

I think in the long run weather the web team likes it or not is there are gonna be a bunch of e-thingies that are gonna need to be made/programmed to satisfy the thirst of e-burners.

It's another breed of people that need to communicate in new and different ways.

So many new things to explore. Gets me so excited.

that the eplaya is silly because so much time is spent pretending to drink.
As opposed to dressing up in rubber hose, high heels, EL wire, and really drinking in the desert for a week is in fact quite sane?

Ok...

This thread, not this board, this thread seems to me to be the closest thing to the event that can exist in this way... bringing together people who would otherwise not at all meet. We get to come here and act out aspects of our personalities that we might only be able to do on the real playa (if even then). This thread, at least to me, seems to me to be causing more interactions and real relationships to form than any other thread on this borad. Now I may be wrong about that, but one thing I’m absolutely certain of is this:

This thread has made me want to be a part of the eplaya again. This thread has introduced me to more people, and on a more personal level that any other part of this board ever did and I’ve been checking in here for a good bit now. I come back to this thread because it causes people to interact and tell about themselves in ways that wouldn’t be possible other wise. Unless maybe we were on the playa in drag and had our inhibitions lowered because of the absurdity of it.

This thread goes, then I’m betting a lot of really fine people will go with it. Too bad. I’d have loved to have this as an interaction point when I first came to this board. I’m unsure of the logic behind something like that.

I agree LCN. Perhaps it's just a rumor. It's not like we haven't had our share of those float through here.

Time for another drink. I'm doing my best to keep up with those Russian's, but there is no way I can go through a fifth of vodka every other day.

I'm playing around on the 'chat system' that I think they're trying to foist on us as a replacement for the bar.
I thought you were pulling my chain at first about this...

Tell about what you're talking about.

All I can say is that I wasn't overwhelmed by it. I jumped right in. I think it boils down to personality. If you shy, then your shy. And changing it to a chat room wouldn't make much of a difference.

And here, here LeChat. I've made some lovely friendships as well that wouldn't have happened without the bar. Plus, I like the fact that the bar is unstructured that way the conversation can ebb and flow and no one bitchs about thread drift.

Hey there Blue. Kisses right back atcha.

OK. So stop the rumor mill. I don't know anything other than they are trying out a chat system or two to see which could be used on the eplaya.

Personally I hate chat rooms. They go too fast for me since I'm usually multitasking and forget to check in often enough.

Guess I'm old.

Oh blue... you rock. Thanks for the smooch

You know... in actuality, If someone “in charge” wants to change it, no amount of talk from me is gonna make a difference... assuming their mind is made up, you know. So whatever will be will be, I reckon.

I just have to think that Larry Harvey would have to be grinning like hell at the way this thread has gotten people to talk and interact.

We play and pretend on the playa, we play and pretend in here. Seems no different to me.

And I hereby encourage all newbies to come in here, and the "Hello, what's your name..." thread and say “Hi”. If you're shy, then say howdy to me first. I'm a shy person too, in reality. It's hard to just barge into a new place... fear of rejection and all that. I understand this much better than one might think from reading this thread alone. Read some of my posts from way back.

Hope it's just a rumor, and I'll just treat it as such until I find out otherwise.

Ahhhhhh....

Ok, enough of that. I’d like another beer please. And I’m thinking of making some chaps... I was inspired (while reading The Bar thread) by bucket’s furry chaps and thought I could use a pair... but I’m thinking sort of snug fit bell-bottoms in a nice rayon batik. Thoughts?

Rayon as chaps? I don't know, I'd think that you'd have problems with the legs twisting and gathering.

Yeah, I've got some fur left that I'll probably work into chaps myself. Not being a sewer (a person who sews, not a thing that carries dirty water) I have no idea what batik is.

I don't know if they would hold up very well. You'd probably have to put elastic around the top of the legs. I just think a fabric more substantial would work better. Unless you sewed together multiple layers.

I think what the problem was is that the one and only one indivisual (and they made it a point that this was an issue only with them.) that was at the meeting was having trouble with the Bar thread and the way things are going with eplaya.

The only reason I can think of that would be at issue with them is that the Bar thread and other goings on on eplaya .....

And this is just my opinion....

I think it makes their head explode.

But that's just me. You gonna have to ask them what the problem is.

Goodnight sput

Drink DVD?

Hey Bulld!

and I never thought you were that shy
Oh yes...

Picture this, now:

A southern guy with a southern accent planning on driving across country for the first time to go to a place dominated by west coast folks. The first thing I have to do is get on this eplaya thing and lurk, lurk, lurk, then finally post something and see what kind of reaction I get. It was uneasy at best, man. Plus, this place was/is the first chat/bbs type of thing I’d ever done.

I’ve been treated various ways because of where I hail from. People assume things sometimes and I’ve had surprised looks when they find out I really can talk about something other than cast iron pans and moonshine (which aren’t half bad topics, by the way).

I’m goofy here because I’m comfortable around you guys. If I can make you all laugh, then it makes me really happy. But if you saw me out on a Saturday night without anyone I knew around me... I’d be the one in the dark corner by myself. Very shy...

Again... Real Playa and The Bar. Seem real similar to me. In fact, I'm sure I'll be more outgoing on the playa this year because of this thread.

We're drinkin' whatever you want my dear.

You know, I think you may be right. I’d thought about that and was thinking about maybe even something more like Native American leggings (elastic topped) and a breech clout. Picture like thigh-high stockings, only (maybe now loose) bell-bottom leggings
