Not Beth's Cafe, by any chance? The ten-egg omlette and greasy hash browns? A hangover tradition for 30 years...

I feel your pain, Sandwichman. Those hashbrowns really... shall we say, 'lubricate the plumbing'.

Your sponsors did a fine job initiating you to the Seattle dive scene.

Does Beth's still have White Rabbit on the jukebox?

I think I had the six egg but I don't remember. The night before was a night filled with beverages that clouded my mind. And that was a light drinking night for me.

This is kind of highjacking the thread. I'd really like to learn more about Portland. But...

Rian, I keep thinking we're going to run into each other at the Lower Level. Where were you guys this Monday? I was there. Had a nice conversation with CC Sally. Matt showed me the girls bathroom (always a high point of going to any venue). Cool mirror!! Very cool!! I'm getting a visual of you ladies primping before it, making yourselves even more spectacular.

Ta. It's a Vogue weekend for me now. Hope you have Monday off.

PDXers? And sorry about the delay, I got bronchitis and was out of commission for about five days. As far as paying DJ gigs it's not even something I really expect. I enjoying playing as long as the people enjoying listening, pay is always nice but I'm not even getting a chance to play for FREE at clubs in Indianapolis because they only play Top40/gangst*r rap. I'll definately have to check out those groups and Burner meetings, it'll be great to actually meet up with Burners/other cool people on a regular basis.

There are not a lot of venues here and the scene is tight knit but if you spin well there will no problem with getting a few bookings.

The Burner Meets in Portland definitely vary in size from a few people getting shitfaced at the bar to a 100+ gathering to debaucherize the city.

Get in touch before you get moved and we will head out for beverages and I can begin to prepare you for meeting the 3 of the 4 WOTA. It will be a long path and many beverages will be had but the pain will be worth it. ;)

Cool, well it sounds like an all around good time either way. At some point in time I do have to hand out resumes and try to do job interviews. As much as I don't like the prospect of going out there jobless I have the feeling no matter what I do that's going to be the case. If you want you can listen to me and Dave's mixes online at www.induceonline.com . I still have to check to see if we can get a rental car while there as I'm 21 and Dave is 22, laws are different everywhere and so are rental car companies policies as far as what age they will rent to. Got quite a bit to do and I'm trying to spread it out so I'm not cramming it all in at the last minute! Thanks for your help and support everybody!

Portland has good public transit so you really shouldn't need a rental car here unless you were talking about just getting out here.

For jobs hit up the temp agencies. They rule the roost out here and hold the open door for many good companies. I always tell people when they walk into a temp office be ready to work that day. I have seen people turn down the same day job and never get a referral again.

Hope that helps a little. Much luck to you. I will check out the mixes and if you want to hear what I am doing my latest mix is at http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=467730&T=8909

Alright, looks like perspective dates for being out there are Feb. 10th through Feb 13th. That'll give us 4 days to kind of run around and take care of everything. Public transit is a big plus, but we might have to get a rental car anyways because we'll be wanting to go see various rental properties and go to some businesses to deliver resumes, so we'll probably just get a rental car for one day. Also depending on where our hotel/accomodations are we might need one. I'll definately check out your mixes when I get off work!

Well look what we have here....

Post by Sea Monkey » Wed Jan 19, 2005 11:43 pm

Oh, hey there everyone!

Yeah, we're coming out to Oregon. :D

Alex is the responsible one doing all the research while I squander my money and just count down the days until leaving. As far as DJing, getting paid is great, and having an audience is great, and having a huge venue with big flashy lights and a gut-melting soundsystem is great, but even without any of those things, I'll still be spinning records somewhere...

I should probably get some computer certs (A+, CCNA, MCSE, whatever) so I can get a good enough job to support my DJing habit once I'm there.

I can't wait to meet up with some burners too. I'll check out those mailing lists that were mentioned earlier in the thread. Thanks, whoever posted those.

Namaste!

Comeon... it'll be fun. You and some friends could truck down for a night, and if me and Dave end up getting a hotel room then everyone could crash there, as long as no one trashes it rock star style (unless we put it on Dave's card and not mine :D ).

If we hadn't already purchased the plane tickets and scheduled the time off work (and there was enough time to reschedule the time off with our employers) then it wouldn't be a problem. Our schedule is pretty concrete, but we are going out there for the purpose of looking to move out there permenently so I don't think it will be too much of a problem to eventually find time to go out for a couple nights and go nuts. Are there any other Burners planning on being around in PDX for that time period? I'm still debating if I should bother bringing my vinyl out with me so if there is anyone planning a party or gathering and you'll have a couple of hours open we'd be more than happy to participate.

There are not really any events around here that you can just drop in with vinyl. Most of the nights are planned easily 2 months out with a lot of djs vying for the open slots. I would recommend leaving the vinyl at home but bringing CD's. I can easily get you out to some of the club nights and help you get CD's into the right hands. There are several of us that live in Portland so you should have no problem meeting up with the Portland family. Although we are not as cute as Rian we do manage to have a good time.
