I know what IT is.
I went to my first BM last year, I was at 2:30 and Neptune, and I been thinking about it, and I now know what IT is.
Whenever Im walking down the street, and I pass people going the other way, I always smile a little and try to look into their eyes. Usually people will keep looking in front of them and ignore me. But once in awhile, some people will share eye contact, and for a short moment, I can see inside them.
Thats what the Burning Man is.
Be seeing you!

the great Lewis Carroll wrote:"Edwin and Morcar, the earls of Mercia and Northumbria, declared for him: and even Stigand, the patriotic archbishop of Canterbury, found it advisable--"'
`Found what?' said the Duck.
`Found it,' the Mouse replied rather crossly: `of course you know what "it" means.'
`I know what "it" means well enough, when I find a thing,' said the Duck: `it's generally a frog or a worm. The question is, what did the archbishop find?'

Jean-Paul Sartre said "hell is other people"
I think heaven might be in there too.
Robert Burns said, paraphrased, "O what a gift that God could give us, to see oursleves as others see us."
I take every opportunity in my life to try and see what others see, feel and think. It's the ultimate luxury.
At BM its the same, just a difference in the scale of things.
The IT of Burning Man is the same IT I search for everyday. Theres just a whole lot more there.
Maybe this is obvious for everybody, but I'm a little autisitic and it took me awhile.

Shhhhh Skygod you're not suppose to tell people that you found "it" at burningman.... Jeezus God man... there are already 33,000 people who have come, and we just can't seem to get rid of them, now we're stuck with them every year. Just like now we're stuck with you. We're trying to keep this small piece of heaven a secret for as long as we can.......

Yes you are stuck with me now.
Im usually not narcissistic enough to make posts like this
but I feel like I owe it to someone.
The insight I had was that eye-contact with a stranger on the street and the artwork and interactions at BM are the same thing was too good not to share.
I think i can build on that foundation.

I don't think meaningful eye contact is just a Burning Man IT. Eye connection is one of life's constant ITs, one of the best parts about moving amongst any congregration of strangers anywhere anytime.skygod wrote:...now know what IT is.
