Dead Burners?
I may be making a real mistake. There must be a reason.
Where are the Deadheads?
This seems like an outgrowth of the infamous "tests".
Please enlighten me, privately if you need to. Or point me in the right direction.

Oh, I got the point..
Sarcasm doesn't transfer well online.
I am sure there are "Deadheads" around, but they are probably at a Dead show right now...
Maybe the difference is that, from what I am gathering, most Burners work jobs and look forward to a week at Burning Man to let loose... whereas most Deadheads work a week and look forward to following the Dead for the rest of the year...
Sorry, couldn't resist..

Where are the Deadheads?
Try looking here
It was all part of the deal, they took the Deadheads, but we got stuck with the ravers. We figured the ravers would eventually eliminate themselves through heat stroke, and dehydration but we didn't count on them breeding to renew their population. At least we don't have to listen to "Truckin", or see people holding signs that say "I need a miracle" at the gate.

I brought this to "Philosophy" for a reason.
"Deadhead" is the wrong word - but Chai Guy nailed the question as framed.
Iconoclast - In recent history, there seemed to be more Bimmers than busses in the lot.
If one returns to the roots of the Dead phenomenon, one finds that they were just the house band for a group of people refered to as "pranksters".
I was struck by similarities between the "acid test" culture of the mid 60's and what I have found in the BM culture. That "original intent" was what I was looking for sparkly shards of.
Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place, but the light is so much better here. (A nice EL glow.)
BTW - I Never need to hear "Truckin" again either.

Note plural. I saw one woman who was out there for at least two days. LIving in the bushes off the road. Alas, purity. I hope we had a raver infiltrate Jerry's grave.Chai Guy wrote:At least we don't have to <snip> see people holding signs that say "I need a miracle" at the gate.

I count myself as lucky to have had the opportunity to attend a few Dead shows. REALLY like SOME of their music, and REALLY REALLY hate some of it, too.....An interesting blend of Freakotypes, perhaps marginally more homogenous than Burners, except for those guys in the khaki skirts runnin' around everywhere.....I'm relieved that Phish called it quits before they devolved into latterday Jerry clones, pickled and parched. Never got a chance to see their disciples in a live setting, Thank You Ticketmaster for making that beyond my means.
In a nutshell, or a nut's hell, it's better to be stuck in a crowd with a bunch of interesting weirdos than to be stuck in the Default with Ordinary Fucking People. Praise Larry that I get a quality Unreality Check once a year.

Howdy From Kalamazoo
im a deadhead
and i love burningman. the techno beats get to me after four days on the playa. i would love to see a deadhead camp. i staged a grateful dead hour on my camps radio station during my first year, but our signal only reached to the camp next to us so i dont think many people heard it.
and truckin is not the only song the dead played. its just the one song that people who know nothing about the band quote. that or uncle johns band.

good news and bad news
RE: ravers
The good news>
Don't count on them breeding with any great success- between the additives of varying quality (or lack thereof) repeated concussions, random sex with anything that happens to be there - well, survival of the fittest won't be including them.
The bad news>That's where all the deadheads are. (nostalgic tears for days gone by at MSG).
