Did anybody make it over to the jewelry-production camp?
I think it was called Black Rock Jewelry Company or something (?) We kinda tried to find it but never did. Wondering how that went, what it was like, etc. because I'm doing something similar this year. TIA.
It's what you make it.
If you're talking about the camp where you made necklaces, it was awesome! I think it was on Orion's belt, but I'm not sure, 'cause we stumbled on it by accident.
They limited the amount of people inside at any given time, so it wouldn't be overcrowded, and you had to take your shoes off before you entered.
The artist running the camp had a HUGE supply of beads and jewelry making supplies, and he took a picture of each person and their creation before they left.
It was truly one of the best gifts to the citizens of Black Rock City.

Dang, I wish I'd made it. I was gonna gift them some of my pendantts. Nothing like having to leave on Friday morning to put a spike in your bm experience.

Anyone know who ran it? Name/email address? Trying to get some advice for my own gig (or maybe we could work together).

Puruse the list and see if you can find them.

I did jewelry making--bead stringing and wire work mostly for a couple of years and still have oooooodles of beads, plus my tools plus 1000s (literally, I think) of my crocodile pendents, plus and idea for making the man out of wire on a jig. Maybe we could work together.

"The Necklace Factory"
Just sent them an email. Thanks.
Yes, let's talk. I would LOVE to have someone working with us who knows what they're doing (as I am at the very beginning stage of learning how to do this stuff and what works best, etc.) whether you're camping with us or just popping in whenever you can.
And I like the idea of making man figures out of wire. Been pondering that one, myself but I'm sure you know better.

Haven't actually tried it, but I do think it would be fairly easy. Plus I could make multiple jigs so as to have different sizes and complexity.
I'll be camping with my husband in one of the Emergency SErvices Department camps--but i'm just a hanger on there, and I'd really like to DO something of my own. Feel free to pm me.

I adore beads. Never made it into the necklace factory, although my friends did and they made some lovely necklaces. Extraordinarily nice!
I make wire wrapped pendants, give out hundreds of them; really freaked out the nurses and receptionists in the surgeon's office when I gifted to them.
I may be able to help on a "pop in" basis, but am doing the Home for Wayward Art project at our camp this year.

I was making them out of copper and aluminum wire from electrical scavenging....I found that even fairly small-gauge wire will hold the shape pretty well if you work-harden it by flattening it on a little anvil. The Men (Mans?) that I was making were about 4" long, with a little flame coming out of the top of the head accented with yellow spraypaint.DallasPlaya wrote:And I like the idea of making man figures out of wire.
