'Earth Day Virtual march'
That's right up there with 'virtual voting' or 'virtual volunteering' ain't it? All talk, no walk?

Seems pretty meaningless.

My biggest problem with this is that it looks like a great way to harvest emails for fundraising and who knows what other purposes.

Sending a letter (not email) directly to your elected representative would seem far more effective. (actually voting and holding those people accountable, even more effective).

I know where you're coming from CG, but I've had both of my Senators and my US Rep suggest I send them e-mail instead of snail mail which gets irradiated and delayed in getting delivered. As for the topic itself...no comment.

Certain activist groups (such as American Atheists) have features on their web pages that allow you to send faxes directly to your rep's office, too. It's a hard copy (which is harder to ignore), and doesn't have to go through screening.
