The Guns and Dope Camp is back, and looking for new members

Post by Clownsuit » Sat Apr 16, 2005 6:43 pm

Like dope?

Like guns?

Like one but can tolerate the other?

You may be able to join our "crack" squad of political delagates in the Guns and Dope Party theme camp. We follow the tenants of Robert Anton Wilson's bold new political ideology:

[1] guns for those who want them, no guns
forced on those who don't want them (pacifists, Quakers etc.)
[2] drugs for those who want them,
no drugs forced on those who don't want them (Christian Scientists etc.)
[3] an end to Tsarism and a return to constitutional democracy
[4] equal rights for ostriches.

Check out www.gunsanddope.com for more info, and contact me if you're interested or have questions at [email protected]

Of course we wouldn't consider bringing firearms to the playa, as that would be dangerous. Also, everyone knows that there's no dope at burning man, so we would never even consider the possibility of thinking about having any around. Mostly, though, we'll be endorsing everyone we meet for the political office of their choice. Everyone for president is our motto. And the ostriches....don't forget the ostriches.

A coalition for personal freedom

Post by Chronon » Sat May 07, 2005 9:51 pm

We are about inclusion here. The idea is to get guns rights enthusiasts and dope enthusiasts on the same page to affect change. I myself admire dopes of many varieties. A quote from the party website:
Both the pro-gun people and the dopers
[medical, religious and/or receational]
feel like minorities, and the TSOG [Tsarist Occupation Government]
agrees with this estimate of their weakness.
Our contention holds that in the West both groups
working together make a MAJORITY.
Ergo, they have much to gain and nowt to lose in combining forces.
Each side only has to realize this and agree
"We'll tolerate their hobbies if they'll tolerate ours"
and we can drive the Tsarists back to Russia!

Guns and Dope

Post by gnostikoi » Tue May 24, 2005 8:22 am

Sadly, many people misunderstand the Guns and Dope philosophy, and by extension the Guns and Dope camp. I think the Guns and Dope philosophy was best summed up by the motto on our Tsar cards last year (possession of which entitled the bearer to all the rights of privileges of an official Tsar):

"Like what you like
Enjoy what you enjoy
Don't take crap from anyone"

Personally, I would have liked to have added "...unless you like/enjoy taking crap from people", because, you know, lots of people do.

As for oatmeal, I find that nitrous oxide and beer make a far more satisfying breakfast.

The Guns and Dope camp scares me. Guns, dope and ostriches... that's one hell of a combo. But I'm also strangely interested in it like agirlnamedfury. What is required from a new BM virgin?

We're very scary people. Powerful intoxicants and only slightly less powerful firearms are always a frightening mix, but when you add nature's finest landbound bird (with all due respect to the Lost Penguins) well, my god, anything could happen.

And all three need either cleaning, or cleaning up after.

What's required of a new member to Guns and Dope, eh? Hmm...I gotta work in a few minutes so I'll be brief. First, you must pledge to be tolerant of other people's recreational habits. Second, you must pledge to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Third, you must sign your soul away to Beelzebub, and dance upon the grave of your grandmother. If your grandmother isn't dead, then an appropriately expired elderly woman's grave will be provided for you.

Actually, the first one there is the only one that really counts. After that, you should generally be up for helping set up camp if you can. Also, there's usually about 50 bucks or so in group pitch to offset the costs of generator, gas, dome, trinkets we give away, etc. This is only if you can afford it, though. We don't turn anyone away because they don't have the flow. Basically, our rules are : try to be nice to your fellow camp mates. If you can't be nice, then at least be funny. If you can't be funny or nice, sleep it off and try again in the morning. But, we've never had any problems. Generally a very kind, loving, giggling bunch of over educated and under employed people.

To further inform the public of the benefits and requirements becoming a member of the Guns and Dope Party, I shall now add to my previous post. Work is finally done for the week and I, like God, must rest.

What our camp tries to provide on the playa is a humorous slant on politics, combined with a strong ethos of tolerance for each other's hobbies.

We'll have a pretty big dome, covered by a 65' parachute. Also, A generator to supply juice for RV's, lights, music, possibly a set of turntables if our DJ friends show up. We might have t-shirts again this year, and Guns and Dope dog tags are pretty likely.

We'll also be having several parties this year. They may include DJ's, and excessive consumption of Night Train... all you can vomit.

We aren't a camp that asks much from its' members, though. If someone wants to just camp with us, help set up a little, and then disappear for a week, we won't be offended. Your obligations are yours to give. We're all about respecting each other's desires...no playa nazis here.

As to our giving back to the community, we're going to be offereing harm reduction information. Also, if we can get Chronon inebriated enough, he'll be giving out free hand-jobs. (shhhh...he doesn't know this)

Are ya going to be a registered Theme Camp?

You should make a gun that shoots dope.

Just a brief answer to your question, since it's late and I have to work tomorrow - yes, this will be our second year as a registered theme camp. We're a bit new, and small, but growing :)

Yeah, we'll be a registered theme camp. I believe our description may even be up on the site. As far as a gun that shoots dope, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, the laws of our great nation seem to clearly prohibit illicit pharmacuetical distribution through combustible or non-combustible methods.

Last year we had an idea, though....

Get some of those pocket fisherman, with a joint on the end of the line. Fish for hippies. Scratched that, though. legalities and all. Maybe we'll try again this year with trip toys or something.

Yeah, that book was pretty damn good. I like his Cosmic Trigger series quite a bit. If you haven't checked it out yet, some fellow burners made a documentary on Robert Anton Wilson. They're cool guys, and you can check it out at www.maybelogic.org. Cody, one of the producers, ended up going to my playa wedding last year.

Making a theme camp out of drugs and sex? Most things I'm involved with at burning man eventually turn into that. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Chastity For Christ Camp turned into a Bacchanalian orgy. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if everyone at the Group Orgy Tent didn't even manage a hand-job. BM is funny like that. [/i]

I was going to suggest that "Group Orgy" is redundant. Then I got to thinking about the time I locked myself in the house and got loaded on...

...oh, nevermind. Fortunately, I didn't go blind.

The camp reminds me of my favorite album title ever:
