Greetings from Chicago!

Post by Mbrutigliano » Wed Apr 27, 2005 1:10 pm

Hey everyone,
My name is Meghan and I am from Madison, WI and Chicago, IL. My roommate and dear friend Devin and I are excited to experience our first burn this summer on the playa. I enjoy performing improv comedy in Chicago and designing clothes and jewelry. We are both determined to hone our musical skills before we get there so that we can join in on some jam/drum circle action. We've got flutes, guitars, and little drums to bring along and some ideas for crazy costumes. So, we're on our way. We've even got two-way radios to keep track of one another. (that's where our dorkiness comes into play). :P

Though we have both done extensive backpacking, we know that the world we enter into on the playa will be like nothing we could ever have imagined or experienced. We will come to you with open hearts and minds and the capacity get crazy.

We have limited travel time so our plan is to fly out to San Francisco, bum around, and then head to Black Rock City from there.
Here's a question:
* We are into this idea of mutant vehicles and crazy bikes and we realize that the city is vast and that walking around all day would be more strenuous than riding. Is there a way to get a bike once we get there? Please let me know!

Bike sales in Gerlach...

Post by EvilDustBooger » Wed Apr 27, 2005 1:26 pm

You could steal one from some un-suspecting dummy who didn`t lock
theirs up !

kidding..............

I heard you might be able to buy one in Gerlach, where they collect
and recycle bikes after last years burn. But you probably shouldn`t
count on it...

REno thrift stores are savvy enough to raise their prices during that week. You can buy new at a box store in Reno. If you're meeting a friend who's driving and has the space maybe s/he can buy you one, bill you and take it to the playa.

Yeah, there's also a couple spots in Empire and Gerlach where you can rent a bike for the week. Dunno how many they have, how good they are, or how much they cost.

past three years Empire has had a plya bike vender next to the store(i.e. town) if your in S.F. pick one or two up at a thrift store provided you can get it there. I try to bring an extra or 2,3 for just this reason if you find camp jello shot look me up maybe I can hook you up!

If you have a bike you'd like to bring I'll be heading through Chicago to pick up someone up on the way out this year. there's a possibilty that you could drop it off with him and we could meet you out there with it.

Of course all plans are subject to change, but the offer's there until they do
