WAR! What is it good for?
What I find incredible is that everyone on here had such a lot of mud to fling at me about not appreciating diversity of opinion and so on - and yet - Testes and PJ particularly seem to have no problem at all with the world being based on an American model (even if that means maintaining an unwanted military presence in other countries) BTW PJ that argument about how if everyone in Afghanistan could buy an american car or if women could get microwaves or whatever is frankly nothing short of disgusting, especially from someone who no doubt frequently talks about the 'anti consumer' event he attends in Nevada - also can we try to get off this 'they breed like rabbits' vibe - that is nothing short of the same kind of nazi bullshit propogated about the Jews in WW2.
Also you seem to think Muslims are somehow backward, like every muslim society follows some fundamentalist Taliban model - look fuck it right - Just why the hell should the rest of the world be built on the american capitalist model, like its so fucking great that you have the highest gun crime / murder rates of anywhere in the Western world.
Patience is so on the money, consumerism and capitalism will not in any way save this poor planet.
Let me get this right fellas, you love diversity - anyone who dismisses anothers opinion out of hand is a dumbass - right Testes? And yet, you do not seem IN ANY WAY to value diversity of culture on this planet. Hey lets turn Iraq into a shopping mall right? - Fucking hell PJ that stuff about how if they could buy burgers etc. BURGERS?!! yes, then they could become as grotesquely obese as half the people in your country.
Ridiculous, specious statements, oh and I love the one about how 'It can be counter productive to have an informed society' well done there PJ -Yes, it certainly would be for G. Bush, he loves the fact that sixty percent of your people think Iraq had something to do with 911 or was even directly responsible, it allows him to continue with his sickening agenda while he lies through his fucking teeth. Apathetic and lazy such opinions are, yes I agree Patience, but I would go so far as to say not only are they stupid as well, but indeed absolutely fucking cretinous.
anyone want fries with that?

Absolute bollocks,
you play that card everytime testes, anyway no matter whether expressed in er, 'humour?' or not. I get the distinct impression neither of you give a rat's ass about America's imperialist hopes for the planet and in fact would welcome a world made 'safer' by military intervention and the wholesale destruction of other culures, you both talk about immaturity in the political cosciousness of the people in Iraq and Afghanistan and speak of their need for 'nanny' states - you trained and armed the taliban for christ's sake, the US has a big fat finger in just about everything that is going on right now, it's no wonder they don't trust your ass.
It is just bullshit arrogance to suggest Uncle Fucking Sam knows best, Uncle Fucking Sam pretty much kicked this whole ball rolling while he shit his pants about communism and Russia in the cold war.
On top of this -
My sense of humour? I thought the fries quip was pretty damn funny even if I do say so myself.

Tories? Jesus...
you don't half talk some codswallop testes.
BTW Is this another hilarious example of your wit or yet another glittering example of your analytical genius? just thought I'd ask.

I find that women that came of age when 1970's-style feminism was in vogue utterly despise her. But the later generations of non-anti-male, pro-sex feminists appreciate her. I find her style extremely refreshing and enjoy the structure of her arguments.Badger wrote:Paglia...Don't have all than many women frinds here in SF that are fond of her. She's a touch too academic for my tastes but at the end of the day I like her stuff pretty much.
There isn't "an American model." But in any case there's no place in the whole Mideast that's a better place to raise a family than is the lousiest US region.Chimp wrote:Testes and PJ particularly seem to have no problem at all with the world being based on an American model (even if that means maintaining an unwanted military presence in other countries)
Actually, I'd recommend Japanese cars unless they need a big pickup truck or some such.Chimp wrote: BTW PJ that argument about how if everyone in Afghanistan could buy an american car or if women could get microwaves or whatever is frankly nothing short of disgusting
And as others have pointed out, this BBS generally responds best to well-thought-out counter-argument rather than simple "that's disgusting" rebuttals.
Of course I do. But I acknowledge and respect your preferance for their quaint culture that gives women zero rights, promises their teenaged sons dozens of virgins in the afterlife if they kill Jews, eradicates Buddhist statues, cheers in the streets when American buildings are attacked by their kamikazis, and so on, to our culture which merely invented the lightbulb, penicillin, economic freedom...and Burning Man.Chimp wrote:Also you seem to think Muslims are somehow backward
Actually they're higher in England presently, which must be exceptionally frustrating for even your best gun control apologists.Chimp wrote:...like its so fucking great that you have the highest gun crime / murder rates of anywhere in the Western world.
I'm beyond fashionably-thin myself, thank you. But many Americans are fat slobs; a factor might be that unlike those of middle-aged Englishmen, their teeth are still intact.Chimp wrote:...that stuff about how if they could buy burgers etc. BURGERS?!! yes, then they could become as grotesquely obese as half the people in your country.
Somebody else came up with that one, not me.Chimp wrote:'It can be counter productive to have an informed society' well done there PJ
No thanks, they're fattening. Give my share to the kids in Afghanistan.Chimp wrote:anyone want fries with that?

There's sure a lot of Brit bashing going on....they're not all bad. Without them I wouldn't have my tea, and one of the nicest looking women I ever met was British with that wonderful accent that just drove me wild.
On the other hand the British did lose their Empire, and they let Hong Kong go back to China. I still hold them in low regard for that move.
Now back to the thread, let's leave the WW2 Holocaust / Hitler / Jew stuff out of this. The e-playa has been civilized ever since I got here. With the way this thread is going, introducing those subjects would be like using napalm. Someone will get burned, and burned bad.

normally, i wouldn't be doing this but.....
i just want to say how sick i am of all the sniping.
the chimp is going thru a very challenging time right now; that he doesn't splash it all over the board is to his credit not his detriment. he's not some yankee crybaby loser who picks on other people to make himself feel better; sound familiar, anyone?
the next time someone asks like an asshole here, just remember:
i love killing hapless fucks.
you want to be next?

Excuse me while I get my Nomex suit on.....it's getting a little warm in here.
I can be negative but this personal attack stuff just sucks. No other way to say it, it's one thing to disagree and be passionate. But when it gets personal, that's too much.
I'm asking the admins and Emily Sparkle to add the PLONK option, so all users can filter out annoying threads or annoying users. I'm sure in 600 posts I've pissed a few of you off so if we get a PLONK option, you won't have to tell me to shut up, you'll be able to automatically ignore me. Or anyone else you dislike.
So if this whole personal attack / sniping stuff is wearing on you like it is me, go look up the admins or Ms. Sparkle in the Memberlist and ask for "Plonk"-ability. It's a very nice tool to have. We need it here.

You know, all kidding aside, it doesn't have to be nice all the time. Or any of the time, for that matter. I'm not willing to enforce any niceness rules on Chimp, and short of deleting my account, you'll play hell enforcing any such rules on me.
Chimp provides lotsa fire, and I for one don't mind playing in it, and I'd probably miss it a bit if it were gone. I don't take it that seriously, I don't really take myself that seriously, and I really recommend that anyone reading my posts carefully consider whether a given post should be taken seriously. Fact is, several of my posts, especially those some have seen as casting aspersions on the British, were meant purely in jest.
Let me repeat this, so it doesn't get lost: I'm not willing to be party to censoring anyone on this BBS, for any reason, because doing so would deprive me of all kinds of fodder! If you value freedom of expression, you won't either.
Oh, and if Chimp is having problems at home, he could elect to do what many of us have done, that is, expose 'em here. He'd get no grief from me for it.

I'm with Tom--I never had a problem simply skipping past the long-winded posts of dull, repetitive flamers. Which catagory Chimp doesn't fit in, unlike a short list of former contributors who shall remain nameless.TestesInSac wrote:You know, all kidding aside, it doesn't have to be nice all the time. I don't think Tom was out of line there. Any number of people bare their souls around here sometimes. Which certainly isn't mandatory, but if a writer is going to let their personal problems muck-up their ability to engage in dialog, the readers certainly can't be expected to divine some deep-lying temporary angst that's interfering with the conversational process.i think he wants some privacy, you insensitive fuck. got a problem with that?

i agree. but people should have the right not to talk about it if they choose.
i know i'm being harsh, but i'm just sick of the bullshit. i'm as inflmatory as anyone else, but you don't see me being a whiney shithead about it.
it's just not neccessary, it's cruel, mean-spirited, and really fucking rude.

I certainly never meant that Chimp had to talk about home problems, it's just another option. If somehow I'm adding to it, well, I can choose to cut some slack (my choice!), but, paraphrasing PJ, I'm not a mind reader.
Here's a hint, and it's one of those 'reasonable person' standards: come out of your corner swingin', and every option at my disposal is fair game. Speak in a reasonable voice, and you're 99% likely to get the same from me. If not, a clue-by-4 will cover most of that last percent.
