Hi Honey I'm Home!!!!!!!!

Post by pompatus » Sun May 15, 2005 8:45 pm

I am a virgin!!!!!!!!

I am new here and have wanted to be involved in the whole burning man experience and have decided to go this year. I hope to meet everyone there that I can. I am coming from Texas (Austin area) and will be driving.

My one big question is how open is everyone going to be. I live in a small town and am the "freak" of most of my friends and family. I am pierced and tattooed and crazy. I hope I fit in :?:

I wanna make friends so lets talk........

Heya,

I'm a virgin too, from Oklahoma (currently). I think openess isn't something we'll have to worry about, provided we are open ourselves. I can sympathize with being the freak, these Okies don't generally find my obsession with spinning fire around my person at high speeds "normal." What do they know... Anyway, welcome to the e-playa and gl this year!!!

Aah yes. Burning Man, where a freak can feel like a square. As long as you're willing to participate and accept accept everyone elses wackyness, you'll be fine. Plan ahead, build something big, leave no trace, don't get to attached to your plans or a schedule, you'll have a great time.

My obsession (if I can call it that) is body piercing. I have 25 now and plan on getting about 10 -15 more by the time I am done. I just have to wait for the last one in my hand to heal. I have a tattoos and like to color my hair in different shades, each depending on my mood. I tend to be dark, but very open minded. I embrace each person based on themselves and what is on the inside, not their apperance. I think my "rough exterior" I have is a facade, when I get around accepting people I tend to lighten up and enjoy life alot more. Being from California I was used to all kinds of spirits, but here people tend to hide there real spirits of who they are and show who they think people want them to be. My biggest fear is that I become that way.

Okay, enough of my rambling, talk to y'all later........ 8)

I blame it on some sort of lingering "Southern Hospitality" notion that has become decroded to the point of obserdity. Either that or the abundant "God is watching through my neighbors eyes" syndrome that plagues a good portion of our area... I've avoid convergance by making sure I am the object of at least one WTF? stare a day. As long as they don't get me, I'm in no danger...

Gawd it'll be good to be someplace where anything goes...

You will fit in nicely in Black Rock City, providing you're a freak ON THE INSIDE as well as the outside. A little ink and a few staples only mean that you've got money to burn- A lot of the hardest of the hardcore freaks you'll meet in BRC are pudgy middleaged guys like me.

We all got together a month ago for some Chilly camping and a
very spectacular Fireworks/Fire spin night. There was thunder in the valley....We lit it up!!

And don't worry too much...one minute you'll be feeling stupid/dorky/out of place/alone, the next someone or something will make you feel great...
It's what you make it.

No shit. I'm amazed at how people are mis-judged by their appearance -- including me. It's amazing how many people think that looking different = being different.

A very disturbing, yet true observation. Just wearing a kilt in these parts invites "investigation"....People expect you to ENTERTAIN them, too...or, if you do art fairs, WATCH THEIR KIDS.
The wife and I were in Florida a few weeks ago, and visited a marine mammal rehabilitation facility that was partially open to the public...They had a tank with three dolphins, and we spent quite a while watching the people watch them- They'd get impatient and confused, waiting for "the show" to start, and finally stalk off in a huff. (There was absolutely NO indication anywhere that there would be a show, and the dolphins weren't even "trained", although they WERE very playful and friendly.) I blame a major percentage of this kind of weird public behavior on an overexposure to cathode rays, if you get my meaning....

I've discovered that some people who consider themselves "weird" don't enjoy BM as much as they thought. For some people being "weird" has it's own advantages and they enjoy exisiting in a world in which they are different. For some people being a freak among freaks is kinda boring. YMMV.

Nice thread, gang. We are the Island of Misfit Toys. I was like a lost puppy when it was over. Couldn't concentrate on work or stay tuned in the socially acceptable "safe" conversations of the default world. Kept wanting to go deep with people and hitting the wall so I just craved to interact with other burners here and in my home town. I sure did get present and play with my kids and make love to my wife when I got back. The man burns in 105 days.
