I have beat up tent trailer that I dont want to part with.
One problem is this. There are 4 risers that lift the roof up via a cable system when you crank the lever. One of the risers broke a weld where it attaches to the trailer body and it doesnt rise anymore when you crank it up. Do you think that if I rewelded the riser it would all of a sudden work? Is there more to it than that?
Does anyone know tent trailers?

Depending on what kind of trailer, it could just be a snapped strut... or it could have broke internally at a cable tie down point... or it could have taken down a hinge...
The good thing is they are repairable, but if the aluminum's rotten and that's why it broke it ma break again. We had made solid struts for the corners of ours (blown cable attachment points) and a couple strong guys lift that corner and it worked until we bonfired the damn thing a few years later. You can tear it down and fix it but make a ton of notes and don't get scared halfway through otherwise you're doomed. It's like a watch - seems complex but easy if you take it slow and logical and don't get lost!!

Sounds like your on track, make sure you have equal slack or tension in the cables. Their should be a pully wheele on the top & bottom of the corner suport bar theese can become dislodged or broken. if its a slide type bar(i.e. teliscopes up) you will need to get some friends to lift it from all four corners, have a 2x4 or similar ready to support the broken corner while you re bolt it to the trailor frame, a peice of angle iorn may be needed to strengthen the corner.

REPAIR
Ours did the same thing. Only it was a cable break. Upon inspection found that the pulleys were old and rotten and the cable was rubbing on the bolt instead of the pulley which had deteriorated and vanished. I made new ones and recabled it and it works fine now.
