I want to tell you another Lovelock story...
After Vietnam, Ole Uncle Larry owned one of the two gas/service stations in town (until a few years ago). In the seventies I would spend the summers with them, and he would pay me a wage of $3 to sweep the garage, fill the soda machines, and oil racks out by the pumps (remember those? same job as Steve Martin in "The Jerk"). My cousin and I used to jump on the chord that ran across the ground at the pumps to make the bell ring in the shop. Uncle Larry used to get us girls up at 5am to go fishing out at RyePatch Reservoir. We'd stop at the local bakery for hot donuts, Jerky, and Mentos. To this day. He is a steady voice of reason. A great guy, and I sure love him.
Uncle Larry has his ticket for Burning Man this year!

dear dear cryptofishist...
we meet again. Thats a great piece of art. A bit harsh for me, but I can see it. This thread has drawn a few extremely interesting people into a conversation that I'm really digging. I want to hear more about or from AntiM, Bay Bridge Sue, Isotopia, and yes yourself who has so diligently been by my side since the moment I entered this arena. I think we're friends now. Wanna hold hands and skip.

Shannon--I'm dating myself. That's the lyrics to Nina Hagen's "Born in Xixax" off the Nunsexmonkrock album. I couldn't find a print version to try and warp it to I was born in Lovelock, but that's the tune that comes into my head.
The Lady with a Lamprey
"The powerful are exploiting people, art and ideas, and this leads to us plebes debating how to best ration ice.
Man, no wonder they always win....." Lonesomebri

I actually envisioned the melody of 'Were you born in asshole? Did you live there your whole life?. It's an old cowboy song that I haven't heard since the heavy metal bar days in Reno (1990ish) They used to end evening with it. Folks would raise their glasses and sing it drunkenly, and loudly, and to eachother. The days...

Hey- Any Silver Staters got an update on what's happening at Thunder Mountain in Imlay? I'm planning a return pilgrimage in about 100 days, and was curious about the restoration.....
