I just found this on another site on Drinking in Japan...

Drinking Manners

When drinking alcoholic beverages, it is a Japanese custom to serve each other, rather than pouring the beverage into one's own glass. You are supposed to periodically check your friends' cups, and serve them more once their cups are getting empty. Likewise, if someone wants to serve you more alcohol, you should quickly empty your glass and hold it towards that person.

While it is considered bad manner to become obviously drunk in some very formal restaurants, the same is not true for other types of restaurants such as izakaya, as long as you do not bother other guests.

Do not start drinking until everybody at the table is served and the glasses are raised for a drinking salute, which usually is "kampai". Avoid using "chin chin" when drinking a toast, since in Japanese this expression refers to the male genitals.

As for me... it's time for me to Skeedaddle - my better 1/2's office is having a honest-to-goodness cocktail party in an hour (when was the last time you heard of an actual honest-to-god cocktail party in the default world?? Reminds me of the good old days!!) and it's across town, and I should prolly be there! Kinda gives me an idea, tho... maybe we could do an earlycomers afternoon cocktail hour and social on Monday or Tuesday night (so as not to compete with The Bistro on Thursday)... Or morning... Formal wear required - Tux tails for the women, Ball gowns for the boys. >>grins<<

Anyway, see y'all in a while... BTW, threw a couple cases of IPA in the reach-in for tonite, help yourself!!

Mmmm...

Waltz in late, and here's this one-eyed monster running all over the bartop. Jeez... talk about a downhill slide..

G'morning everyone. What a nite. Party was a bust (obviously not one of ours!) but the tequila was gratis, so it balanced out sorta... the gear checkout got postponed for a dump run (maybe they're related!) and a backup of laundry... arghhh.. but I got a couple new lamps (with shades, good for bar lighting >>wink<< ) and plans.

Can't wait to see the windmill burn vid. Too cool, Sputnik, and congrats.
