BORG2 voting on art continues, now until tuesday. the jrs announced the end day as tuesday, not this saturday, so we have gladly gone with this error. voting is proving to be fun. we encourage you to vote early and often (though we have the technology to catch you if you do . . .). you can see the real time results here: http://www.aumond.com/publicResults.jsp?election=5. info on the voting is at http://borg2.tribe.net.
what i'm finding interesting is which projects the voting is selecting. ones of clear merit are being selected, along lines similar to what the internal borg1 process would likely pick. but what is really interesting is that the ones rising to the top are the ones that have made a biggest scene in public and have lots of people and excitement around them.
i find this a feature, not a bug. in the burning man amateur hour special olympics of art, lots of people and lots of excitement are as big of predictor of success as nearly any assessment of artistic merit or particulars of the proposed. if you have enough people, enthusiasm and cleverness, building a pile of dirt can turn into a fabulously interesting disaster, as we all know.
the voting is proving to be a very good tool for teasing out these projects which have a critical mass of people and excitement around them. voters are not simply chosing the big names and most audaciuos fire weenie. they are chosing the projects with a strong community around them, and the ones involving people that have proved themselves through lots of public doing.
in doing so, i find the voting to be impressively honing in on factors critical to successful burning man art. collaborative creative work, broadly defined, is our main vehicle towards community. and the voting seems to be well ranking projects by their potential for this sort of real community forming collaboration.

Yes, it’s about over. Or maybe just about to start. We’re not completely sure.
Either way, they are each others’ proverbial necks as they flex and stretch down the back straight towards the finish line. If you can bear to not know anymore, look here and you can see how they line up www.aumond.com/publicElections.jsp and then cast your vote to nudge and push as you like around the all critical funding cutoff line.
You have only 11 more hours to vote and determine who gets the dough and all the building fun this summer.
VOTING INSTRUCTIONS ARE BELOW. FOLLOW THEM IN DETAIL TO NIRVANA, OR AT TO LEAST KIKO’S EMAIL ADDRESS.
Voting is fun. The projects are really inspiring and good discussion and collaboration is already happening around them. The voting is proving a good tool to get the projects and people out in the daylight for the good community cooperation thing. But if for some reason you find yourself bored with the whole gig, you can of course wrote kiko complaining about something. He likes that. He has been making comments about the postal service for some reason, but we are not too sure why.
Anyway, we have added the late list signups to the borg2 voting database as many only heard of this via the JRS this weekend and have written (not nicely) about how they feel about their lack of enfranchisement. So if you signed up this last weekend, you are now in the voting database and can use the directions below to vote. NO MORE REGISTRATIONS ARE BEING TAKEN, as an open call for new registrations at this point is too much of a temptation for fraud. Those who signed up passively over the weekend, after it was clearly announced there was no more registration are unlikely candidates for attempted fraud. Big money is at stake. Well, at least $20,000 as of now.
And yes, it is now $20,000 in cash in the bank. Yesterday a generous soul donated $2,000 to the art fund, bringing us to $20,000 of our $25,000 goal. We here at BORG2 bless them for their largess and very much needed help in making this populist art experiment possible.
We now have a total of 3 people in the $1,000 and above "Secret BORG2 Artfund Donor Dircle". You can't know who they are, as they are special and don't like to be seen throwing lots of money around in front of their friends. But they have been and continue to be critical to get the total art fund up to a level where we can make a significant impact. Those with unique capabilities are helping uniquely, as usual.
You too can purchase "the full taqueria" for $1,000 or above. We have only 5 taquerias left to go to get to $25,000. Anyone out there have the interest and ability to skip the burritos and buy the whole place? Or maybe half a place? El Farolito is likely only worth $500 anyways.
For the rest of us, we'll continue eating through the burritos and drinking through the beers one by one. We have raised about $3,000 through the ONE BURRITO AND ONE BEER abstinence program in the last couple weeks. Many thanks to all who have participated and have pledged to continue participating. More info here: http://www.borg2.org/Donate.html
MANY SMALL CONTRIBUTIONS BUNDLED TOGETHER DOES IN FACT BUILD TO A LARGE PILE OF MONEY.
Nearly all of the borg2 art fund is from $10-100 donations. So YOURS does make a difference. ONE BURRITO AND ONE BEER at a time. 4 months until the event. $10 a month, $40 total.
You can do it. We have complete faith in you.
Jim
Don’t know how to vote? Here’s how, IN SIX EASY STEPS
(now please read this. it is really quite simple actually. Do not email kiko until you have infact read this. it is only about 30 lines. If you write Kiko, he is only going to repeat back to you what it says below until you apologize for not reading what it says below in the first place. And then you will feel silly. Why are burning man people even worse readers of instructions than the general populace? But yes, if you do the below and it doesn’t work for some odd reason (which is very rare), then follow the directions and write kiko (nicely). Thank you for keeping the workers behind the counter happy. All guns have been removed from the premises for your protection.)
1) Go here first:
www.aumond.com/confirm.html
Enter your e-mail as it appears in the BORG2 mailing list, legal name, date of birth, address and telephone and you will be e-mailed your password at the e-mail address that you used to register for the BORG2 e-mail list. The e-mail will have the subject line "Your BORG2 Demagogue password". If you can't find it, try looking in your spam folder.
2) With your e-mail and password go here
www.aumond.com/login.html
enter your e-mail and password.
3) Click on the "vote" link on the BORG2 Art Grant election
4) You can vote for as many projects as you like as long as the sum of the budgets of the projects you selected does not exceed $20,000. You will see the project budgets in the righ column in the ballot. It's a big ballot and a busy page, so make sure you vote for who you wanted and that you are not exceeding your budget limit. Once you cast your vote, you can't change it. If you exceed your budget, you will be asked to go back and take some projects off your ballot until you are below the $20,000 limit.
5) You are done!
6) Results can be viewed by anyone, even if you are not registered to vote, in real-time (updated every 2 minutes) here:

CRUCIBLE NEEDS ARTISTS AND VOLUNTEERS
From AC member GXAOUI:
"Attention BORG2 members! This is a wonderful opportunity to help the BORG2 raise money and awareness, while experiencing a superb event. Early on in the life of the BORG2 we contacted the Crucible to work with them on this very show. Many months passed, things happened, and suddenly it is approaching…
I talked to Michael Sturtz of the Crucible, and he is interested in working with the BORG2, and depending on how beneficial we are to the event, he will reciprocate accordingly with good PR and finical donation. We need to represent the BORG2 at this event in a big way. If you have a appropriate fire or light art piece you want to display, some performance, or a class you would like to teach, this is a great occasion, but you have to act fast, the deadline is next week.
http://www.thecrucible.org/calendar/faf_05_call.html
If you want to volunteer, to work on any aspect of this event, you need to contact them soon also. The Crucible is very good to the volunteers and you will have a good time. Please make sure that you remind them that you are a member of the BORG2 so we can be credited for your efforts.
http://www.thecrucible.org/calendar/faf ... teers.html
Most of all remember that you will be representing the BORG2 and your efforts and actions reflect directly upon us. Thank you very much for interest in the crazy project (the BORG2) and all the energy it has
received. The following is information about the event from the
Crucible, if you have any questions please contact them.
