Reno to Black rock...how do you get there?

Post by The Love Ninja » Mon Apr 11, 2005 11:54 am

Hey, my wife and I are burners out of the midwest. Through several turns of events we have started looking at taking a train or a plane into Reno and then somehow getting from Reno to BRC. The trick is we would love to avoid having to rent a car for a week so it can sit in the desert. So, any burners out there who fly, train, or bus into Reno, how do you get to Black Rock from there?

Note--craiglist postings are only up for 10 days. I don't know how the rideshare works--ie will you have topost twice, can you sew up your ride now. I've never done it.

ride from Reno to BRC

Post by Fathippo » Sun Apr 17, 2005 4:21 pm

Hello there,
I'm coming up on my fourth burn this year..and I've actually missed one burn because of transportation problems so I think this year we are going to arrange a shuttle bus to transport people from Reno to BRC and have things preset so its all set up and people don't have to worry about the ride thing. We are currently working trying to get funding so this service can be either free or very cheap. Just hit me with an email at [email protected] and I'll be happy to give you the scoops..T

Just curious, but how are you fundraising for this?

Actually,
Me and my friends in NY are hoping to have a fundraiser at a bar in NYC and I'm also hoping to write to some people with some $$ and see if they'll give to the cause...T

hitch hiking?

Post by redd_18235 » Sun May 29, 2005 8:47 pm

Just wondering if anybody ever hitched hiked from the airport to BRC? If so, is it safe and what was it like?

You can't hitch in Nevada... it'll get you busted. Well... you can, but you take your own chances. Better to set up a rideshare/ride pool ahead of time...

Pardoning Bay Bridge Sue's post, but there is a way to "hitch" in NV that I have seen work. If you fly into McClarron and catch the shuttle to the Reno Hilton (huge hotel/casino away from downtown), there is a gas station area there. We stopped by in our RV and there were two burners with a sign that read: GOING HOME, BLACK ROCK CITY! We were going to pick them up, but they had already gotten a ride from fellow burners in the 30 seconds it took for us to reach them! This is a very easy and comparatively safe way to get to BRC. As always, YMMV.

Check with http://www.greentortoise.com/ -- they have picked up people in Reno in past years but it's not been planned yet this year. Maybe a few passengers would give them the impetus.
