How much dry ice should I bring, and what will make it keep longer?
Last year i camped with 4 other people and brought enough precooked food for everyone for 10 days. We bought $20 worth of dry ice, and put it in 2 coolers (not gimongous ones, but big). Our stuff stayed frozen for 7 or 8 days. we had a separate cooler for non frozen stuff.
USE GLOVES-- do not touch the dry ice with your flesh
we drove through the night to reno and bought our dry ice there
fill open cracks in your cooler with balled up newspaper (insulation)
wrap your dry ice in newspaper to insulate it (you can use duct tape to keep it on)
put the dry ice on Top of your food (heat rises, cold sinks)
put duct tape around the opening of your cooler
DO NOT use an airtight cooler
keep your coolers in the shade
keep your coolers off the ground (so they don't pick up heat from it)
open your coolers as infrequently as possible
put a label on each cooler (paper, sharpie, duct tape) saying what is in it
good luck!
this is all from memory from 2003 and 2004's threads on dry ice. i may have missed something, but it's pretty thorough. let me know if you find any other recommendations...thanks!

Hey Guys,
The point of my post, was to convey that there are already a dozen or so "Dry Ice" threads. When you wish to post a question, it's a good idea to do a search first and see if that topic has been covered before. We don't need 27 threads on Dry Ice. Thanks.
(By the way, I stopped my search after 15 pages, there are probably even more Dry Ice threads that I didn't even see.)
I'm going to talk with the other moderators about consolidating some of these threads.
Thanks.
