MARS as visible as the FULL MOON by October 30

I have been gatheringinformation about this phenomenon in order to find out the best ways to view it from the Playa. Mars will be the closest that it has been to earth in somewhere between 50,000 and 70,000 years. The information that I have found so far is that it will be "easily visible", but am still gathering info for HOW CLOSE. one example says at its closet on October 30th, it was bill clearly as visible as the full moon.

Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

This is just wrong. More bad info masquerading as science.

BTW, if you do go up late October/early November you need to go prepared. I went up a few years back in November to check out the Leonid meteor shower and it was the coldest I've ever been in my life.

Now I want to build a big clothing-optional playa telescope for viewing Mars.....and call it The Naked Eye.

I can't tell if you are saying it absolutely is not going to happen, or if you are just voicing some more opinion on it. likewise on the link.
I get, however that it WON'T be as large as the full moon to the naked eye. I worried about tidal shifts and the end of days while on the playa (luckily the tides will not be all that close but who the hell knows what else could happen)

I guess i will be looking for it myself but thanks for the additional opinions.

I had my telescope out on the playa in 2003 when the real close encounter happened. Got some great viewing in. Saw the polar cap. Cruise by the theme camp I'm with, M*A*S*H 4207th (four twenty seventh), and I'll let you take a gander through the eyepiece. With no moon to speak of this year, the star-gazing will be FAAAB-ulous!!!
We are a registered theme camp, but I have not gotten our location from logistics yet...
