Post by Lady Zooty » Fri Jun 10, 2005 2:38 pm

brighton burners are returning for the 3rd time this year and are wondering

be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

bangers and mash
eel pie
bubble and squeek
horse faced royalty
more puritans
gin
God and Country
the colonies
a good old fashioned over the knee spanking
sloan rangers
even more Canterbury Tales
for the sun never to set
Union Jack BVDs
New and improved parlimentary procedure
daft speechs from the House of Lords

That's a good start anyway.

If you knew you were going to run into me--black current flavored candy. Chocolate covered digie bickies. Smarties. Can you tell I lived in the UK when I was 9? Ha, I wonder if you have exotically flavored electrolyte powders!

You know what would be great? Once my mother picked up some lapel pins from some 2nd hand shop that had british public school ranks (or whatever on them) one said "Prefect" okay that's niether here nor there. But "Vice Captain" would be a big hit. And "head boy" and "head girl" might induce severe giggles among certain sets.

OK... 2 things.

I can't remember exactly, but there was a spread that was called (this was 20+ years ago) "Mums"... I remember it from my late teens and I have yet to find it *anywhere* over here. And it's one of those things you never forget...

Fishie's thing aout public school badges... Oooh yeah! I actually had a "best girl" badge gifted me decades ago (also in my late teens) from a best friend from there; that badge disappeared long ago... my BF at the time had a prefect's badge, he used to joke about not just being perfect, but perfect before perfect. (As I remember he was, too... one of those jewels that you wish you'd never let go of...) Found out he ended up being a postman... Kinda sad, as he hd so much going for him...

The thing about gifting - make it personal (like that) and make it memorable.
