the rebbi looks down at the sparkly sequiened boa, irridesent translucent flappers, and the neon scuba gear he is wearing and mumbles. "Either she's making fun of me or this is getting X files weird...."

Oh, yeah!! Welcome emmy! So glad you’ve made it. Someone will be along shortly to help fit you to your new self. In fact there'll be a whole big bunch of us. But don’t' worry... like regynalonglanky said, it’ll be a gentle thing. Generally it is anyway.

You know...between last night and this morning, I read through this entire thread. WHEW! That took a while. There were several things I wanted to respond to, but then, after 31 pages, I couldn't remember all of them. I do remember however someone posted something about their friend who was a Christian not wanting to go. Steve and I are both Christians who LOVE attending Burning Man. When we asked his mother for tickets last year [our birthdays are August 24th(mine) and August 27th(his) and our wedding anniversay is August 26th] her first question was, "But aren't you guys Christians?" YES! Yes we are, but Burning Man appeals to us. And we can attend without losing our beliefs. In fact, the way people behave towards one another at Burning Man is how I believe God wants us to behave towards each other EVERYWHERE and at ANYTIME. With LOVE. Unity. Respect. Community. And EVERYONE says hello to each other! Ahhh, what a great place. You may not share my beliefs, but the Burning Man community is where I will find the least amount of ridicule for those beliefs, and I LOVE it!

I wanted to say, thanks for the warm welcome so long ago, from The Last Real Burner. Did you go last year? You'd better make it this year, and go to the Meet and Greet. Steve and I will be there again, we had so much fun (at the Meet and Greet) last year, I don't think we'll miss it. So I'll see you...and anyone else who makes it, there.

Ahhh, I can smell the playa already...(actaully we had a tube of playa dust for us to bury our noses in when we get that longing...)...see you all there!

Ooooo.[/b] Meet & Greet? What's it, where's it, & when's it? I missed so much last year (my 1st), and I was there for 10 days! I'd love to try to attend this facet of Burning Man. Let us know here on this thread. Hey, it's just about 2 1/2 months to go, now. Happy Solstice. Berk

Hey. Asreza here. I've been to Burning Man before. If I can get it togeather I'll be there this year. The last (and only time) I attended was the year of the floating world. 2002 I think. I have thought of nothing else since.

Hi there.

Post by spoteditor » Sun Jun 19, 2005 6:34 pm

My name is Nathan Byrne. Born in the West Australian gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, grew up in Hong Kong and now permanent resident of New York City.

2005 will be my third burn. 1996, I helped build the World Trand Center Camp, with a bunch of NYC friends (San Fransisco transplants), in 1997 I went with the Green Tortiose, and this year I'm going with a great friend of mine, Judy Louie. Judy is a yoga instructor, residing in Kuwai, Hawaii, but currently in Ubud, Indonesia.

I'm a commercial film editor by trade, and since this absorbs most my life, burning man is a great escape and inspiration.

Looking to meet good people, have fun and admire the super human efforts of many.

Hello Fellow Burners!! (And newbies, you need a spankin')

Post by BLFD1 » Sun Jun 19, 2005 10:13 pm

My name is Rocky I live in The Santa Cruz California area.

I have atended BM Since 2001, and I hope not to miss any in the future.

I spend my time on the playa trippin' around with a few thousand close friends and another 30,000 or so I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet.

I volunteer with the Fire Department at BM and have enjoyed the experience of seeing the "other side" of the event as well as being able to contribute to the community.

If you see us (the Firefighters) out there stop us and say hello, we love to meet new people. I hope to meet you all on the playa this year or in the future.

See you in the "dust"[/b]

Cannot over-emphasis just what great people the firefighters are. Camped with them 2years ago. We are lucky to have such a great crew protecting our city.

CargoCruiser Welcome!

I don't know if you've been in touch with other New Zealand burners, if not they could help you with information and ideas about the logistics, as well as being a good group of people to know I would guess.

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed and that the total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another.

Thus, once upon a time a collection of cosmic gas and dust condensed to become a nuclear furnace. The simple particles were smashed together at furious speed creating bigger particles. One day, the furnace exploded in a supernova and even bigger particles were created and sent forth into the cosmos. After many years these same particles found themselves orbiting another nuclear furnace and condensed again under the force of gravity, but this time they formed a planet, not a star. And on this particluar planet something strange happened. The particles somehow (but we know not how) spontaneously or divinely, the choice is yours, arranged themselves into ever more complicated combinations. Eventually, the combinations became so complicated that they developed consciousness and became aware of their own existence.

I am didjeridude and I aware of my own existence and that of Burning Man. The collection of matter and energy that makes me myself and I was created in Australia but currently resides in Norway. I would like to bring it to Burning Man one day then say..... "G'day mate" and play a tune for you on my didjeridu. Har det bra :D

COOLER?

Post by BLFD1 » Sat Jun 25, 2005 2:27 pm

Cooler in Nevada than Chicago ?

Maybe now, not during the event except at night.

I've seen temps reach as high as 105+ degrees in the daytime and into the 50's, maybe even lower at night.

Be prepared for extreme weather changes, dust storms etc.

Check out this link:

Good luck in the desert...but if you don't have good luck , we'll take care of you.

Meh, I'm very good at introducing myself.. as easy as it is.
My name is Ash.
I live in Arkansas, and I can't make anything of it. This place is a drag...
I found out about Burning Man on accident, actually. It's funny how I'd never heard about it before. I figured - I just wasn't talking to the right people.
This will be my first year attending, and I'm more anxious than I've ever been in my life.
Too many interests to name them all. I can do pretty much about anything.... but mostly smoke crack and paint.

Ha.
Crack? I don't smoke crack!
I love the quote from Gummo that says, "Life if great, without it... you'd be dead." So I try to milk life for all it's worth.
I'll open up more after a bit of posting. Until then, enjoi.

Image Welcome home everybody!

This Board has a plethroa of information, in various and random forms, threads, and posts, but it is there, if you at least use the "search" function. Information on everything from why shouldn't you go barefooted, too how much water should I drink, and beyond. If you read all the info, come prepared, and have an open mind and a honest heart you should do well. All most all of your questions have probably been asked before, and many times, but don't be afraid to ask about something you can't seem to find anything on. Trust me there are so many well versed other random digital personnas floating about, you're question won't go unanswered.

hello from the messiah

Post by messiahwannabe » Mon Jun 27, 2005 5:30 am

hi all!

i'm messiah wannabe. i used to live in san fran, and i went to burning man every year i was there (4 years iirc) now i live in bali, indonesia, where i have a band that mixes traditional indonesian music with electronic stuff (house, hip hop, chillout etc)

so now i am joining the eplaya to ask a question about building poi for firedancing - i mean, if the burning man collective doesn't know where to get industrial supplies for building fire-poi from scratch at the cheapest possible price, i dont know who would.

also, i considered posting the occasional promotional link for my band, but i'm not sure of the netiquitte with that - seems like the sort of thing that could piss people off. but on the other hand what we do is, i think, quite burningman-esque in its way. hmmm, i wonder how i would go about even answering that question? maybe not by asking a bunch of people who are just joining! it's probably in the faq somewhere.

Hi Ingram_Q and messiahwannabe.

Define a lot Ingram :-) Most attendees are from the US, but maybe 1000 are from other countries. That's just a guess. You might find more reliable info on the board or on the BM website.
It's going to be alright.
