Wanted: 55 gal water barrells

i'm looking for some 55 gal plastic water barrels
I need 10-12 but will take whatever i can find....

you can score them from the chemical companies or any company that would bleach in anything that they do. even ttry the hotels , swiming pool dudes-- they go through them

talk nice to them and maybe they will sell them cheaper

you of course have to be careful if you are going to use it for drinking water ... that whatever was inside is ok and will wash out... bleach drums are ok but they need rinsing.. the rest you might want to reconsider as drinking drums

they cost anout 20.00 - 40.00 each new and unused and that is the best if for drinking - but still need rinsing..

you can also purchase 55 gal drums that haven't been used from some surpluse outfits, I've seen some online even..

We got a couple of plastic drums from a surplus yard, the first year we went. They had the remains of olive brine in them. We also got a couple of smaller ones that had soda syrup in them, that took far longer than we expected to clean out.

It turned out to be far more water than our camp needed and it nearly broke the springs on the trailer that carried it.

It just occured to me that you might not be using them for water... cut in half, and mounted lengthwise, they might make an interesting windmill.

I know of a guy selling used ones that are food grade in Portland for $10. I'm buying a bunch for our camp.

Just remember each barrel weighs about 450 lbs full - make sure what you haul them in can take the weight!!!

I am on that water committee, well actually I am the committee. Last year we went in on the purchase of water with another camp and that is our plan this year. So if you are a camp and buying water and want to split the cost drop me a line.

Last year we took a lot of water with us and still bought some on the playa but the ride down was hard as our bus was loaded and going 15mph up mountains. This year we are limiting our water on the ride and preparing to buy it sooner and store it better via the drums. The water we purchased was not potable but we will have filtration systems to make it potable.

Why wouldn't you just buy potable water? It's not like it is rare or anything, hell they have it in gerlach....

It works better for us if we acquire the water after arriving and setting up. Potable or not is a minor issue that is easily corrected and not a factor in the approach we are taking. Picking up Gerlach would not be any more advantageous than having nonpotable delivered to the camp.

well seems like between local word of mouth/craiglist/freecycle + stop @ the TENT MAN in SLC, i'm hooked up already have~ 15-16 barrels!!
no problem hauling them, just throw then on the car trailer & my bus will be full of all the other supplies!!
