Hey there

I will be making my way from the UK to the playa this year.
Ways of getting there, costs, routes and everything in between is going to be an adventure in its self. So if you have any info/ideas on cheap flights etc then please do pass them my way!

i am looking in to travel costs. a flight to san francisco is obviously a must but im looking into getting a train into reno rather than flying since i hear american train travel is a lot cheaper than european fares.i would like to get a few uk ppl together to travel out, safety in numbers and all that plus its better than being on your lonesome on the way in and out. the only other uk person i see on here is emma.

Be sure to check elsewhere on this site (I forget where) for locations of stores in Reno to get what you can't fly over. You can really buy anything you'll need there, but any unique costumes or goodies you'll of course want to fly over with you. A GREAT store for food is a place called Trader Joe's. If you can time it right, get to Reno in the morning so you'll have 3 or 4 hours to take care of shopping. From Reno it's roughly a two hour drive to Burning Man and you'll be happier arriving before sunset so you can get yourself and gear situated and settled.

More UK Burners

Post by lennie900 » Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:48 pm

Hey Alex, good to see you put out a shout to the UK burners.

I'm looking to go for the first time this year, after my arrangements fell through for 2004. I think it is a good idea to keep a string for the UK, as any travel would be easyer going from the same country.

I am currently based in london and am interested in meeting up with other people who are willing to take the road trip to BRC. I have been dicussing the trip with other people i know that have been, but none seem to going this year, i have had a couple of enthusiastic agreements from people to travel, only to be let down by the lack of money even at this early stage.

So fellow adventurers,

I look forward to hearing from any of you to chat, get to know or even possibly go for a beer with.

Hey Tamborinadanceandsing, dougaldutch and alex.

DougalDutch where are you based? are you travelling with anyone, tell us all a bit about yourself, what are your current plans :?:

Tamborinadanceandsing it sounds like you have got a good plan going on already for your travels, taking a side trip as well is something i may do, i have yet to look into this, there are so many wonderful places to visit in the area. Tell us a bit more if you can. 8)

Alex, the apokaliptika camp, how are the guys. I have not spoken to any of them yet. I have however had a look at some of the other forums and i think you have previously mentioned organising an english Tea party. I do think this would be an excellent idea, particually due to the setting. Possibly we could make it happen? :D

Well I am a second year burner, travelling with my friend Claire who I recruited for her first burn. We are flying into San Fran (and out of), checking the place out and then heading (somehow) to Reno. The Black Rock International Burning Hostel is our camp, so we will be helping out at Hageys before we go playa side.

Plan on possibly holding a ceilidh out there, so will soon be looking to recruit callers, dancers and similar rapscallions.

Oh yeah I am based in Inverness, Claire in Edinburgh

burners in europe

Post by bongo_pedro » Wed Apr 13, 2005 2:39 am

There are loads of us. Scootiepie lives in Newcastle. If you register with playadust you will be able to contact her.
Remember that there is a burn event in Spain in July called Nowhere - many of us will be there.

Just an idea

Post by shellybean » Mon Apr 18, 2005 8:18 am

Hi there,
Here's an idea. Try to find out where in the US it would be cheapest to fly to and then hook up with Burners who are driving. My friends and I drive from NJ every year and we are definitely not the only ones!

My goodness that would be the coolest thing I've heard of. I used to live in Scotland when I was a wee lass and haven't been to a ceilidh since. It would be wonderful to have one on the playa.
Let me know!

Hello!!

Post by tokenbrit » Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:00 am

Hello Alex,

I'm here! I went to the 2004 event and had one of the best weeks of my life - completely amazing. Last year I was out there with US friends only so I'd be interested to hear what the UK contingent think.

I'd love to go this year but not sure of my plans yet - depends on time off of work, money and also if I can find some partners in crime (not sure if my US friends can make this years).

If anyone is thinking of going this year and wants a chat about the practicalities please send me a private message. It's an expensive business frankly and a complete pain in the arse getting all your stuff halfway across the world and back. Having said that it is WELL WORTH IT!

I do have one piece of advice - and that's dont get on a long haul flight the day you leave the desert. Far too much reality far too quickly!!

cheers Sarah x

Hi - thought I'd share my cunning ruse to get round the extortionate summer holiday flight costs. http://www.flyzoom.com/ do flights from UK (glasgow, london, manchester) to Vancouver for £300 late august which is a good £200 - £300 cheaper than any other flights I've seen advertised to the West coast. I'm going to be driving down from Vancouver - if anybody is going the same way let me know.

Hi

I'm coming over with a whole posse of virgin burners. We are from London and are flying SF first then hiring a van and driving to BM. Not sure what our theme will be yet but something quintessentially English we think.

The tea party you are discussing is probably a combination of the MAD HATTERS TEA PARTY which was organised by CULT of ALICE, a uk based group from a couple of years back, and the evening dinner burlesque which is being run by many of the same uk burners this year. Contact:

[email protected]

for more details. I'm sure they are looking for support.
