Burn Countdown vs. YOUR Countdown?

Post by XS » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:50 am

Ok, by now we're familiar with the phrase "The Man burns in ?#? days."

But what's your personal countdown?

IE: The man burns in 60 days, I depart for the burn in 52!

I have several non-burner friends who know I'm 'counting down', and they try to bust me on it almost everyday now... "Ok what's the countdown?!"

Somehow I always have the numbers and recite them like a cadet in boot camp.

"The Man burns in 60 days, but I depart in 52, sir!" Carry on private...

So, how 'bout you? .... Are ya ready yet? .... Are ya excited yet?

See ya on da Playa babies! ;)
Too much is never enough.

I have found that time is all relative...........on the Playa it seems that time is suspended, then time creeps by slowly as soon as we pull off the Playa and it passes faster and faster the closer we get to pulling out of the driveway for the next burn! My "official" count down time marker is Monday at 00:01 am...........but I try not to think about how many days "until the man burns" as we pull into the final stretch - I'm behind schedule as it is!

Only 52 days till my transatlantic adventure begins and that is not a day too soon. Lucky for me there is the European Regional burn -Nowhere- in 20 days and that is going to compress me up good and proper for the playa. Woooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooo........oh wait look at the length of my list of sh!t still to do....Aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!

56 days until I set the informal record for Element-stuffing and drive 3/4 of the way across the country in 2 days.

We are setting up our shade structure this weekend at the Neosho(Grand) river for festivities and to work out the kinks!
It`s 12` x 24` this year, EMT & Black Silk. I am So Stoked!!!

I think I`ll bring a bag of playa to toss into the breeze and sprinkle around just to get the feel of the dust on my skin!

We`ll be able to use the shade. It`s been ghastly hot with high UV indexes in Oklahoma lately....this morning is beautiful though, rainy and cool....Ahhhhh!
...but this weekend,...It`s going to be Hot,.... with BIG firecrackers.....!

It Won`t Be Long Now!!!

Have A Great Holiday!!!!

In past years I've figured my timeline thusly:

• Burn Day minus seven days to Playafall...

• Burn Day minus ten days to start packing...

• Burn Day minus seventeen days to finish projects so I can get all me i's crossed and t's dotted Babylon-side and relax a little before I left.

Last year I started getting complicated. I started packing up stuff that was non-essential to daily-to-dailying out here in the Default World about a month in advance. I didn't load up the car, I just packed the stuff. About the same time, I started wearing my hydropak around and using it. Three months ahead of time I stepped up my citrus and cranberry intake (to acidify my body chemistry to counteract the dust systemically — BTW, it worked nicely).

40 or so days until the vacation, 33 or so days until the flight, and it is starting to feel like "fuck, we'll never finish everything in time" instead of "weeee, only a month left". ;)

I keep looking at my projects and panicking; I have to go to a family reunion in PA at the end of July, but will be riding back to Utah in the truck with Larry, so I have no idea how long that might take. I could be gone for three weeks! Argh! And when Larry drops me off he has to keep driving until a day or two before we head out for the playa. Argh!

Did I mention Argh!
