Hi everyone, a quick introduction, because it has
to do with the ART THEME this year!

I am David Oaks, in Oregon, and this is my
30th year working as a human rights activist
for people trapped inside the mental health
system.

We're working for freedom, empowerment,
and radical self-determination right inside
the psychiatric system itself.

We're pro-choice, so we don't get into fights
pro and con psychiatry itself, its drugs, etc.

We're also one of the few INDEPENDENT groups
in the whole mental health advocacy field --
that is almost all the other groups (who may
be doing good work) have funding from the
government, mental health system, drug industry,
religions, etc. We are self-funded, independent.

Since the ART THEME this is year is pretty
much on the area that I work on, I just wanted
to be sure to introduce myself. I actually also
posted in the art section under a kind of
philosophical subject like ("psychochaordic
gaiamind") but there wasn't too much reaction.

Anyone interested in what I do is invited to

And if anyone at Burning Man wants to dovetail
with our work and/or get our material, etc.

I have been to Burningman for 5 straight years. I have also been "lurking" on e-playa for about 4. I thought I would come out this year.
Magoo is truly excited about returning to the playa this year as we know it is going to be great. We feel the energy in the air.
Those of you who recently posted about being from out of state and country, let me assure you that you will not be alone.
Last year Magoo met people from Great Britain, Holland, France, South Africa, Australia, Israel & Japan.

For all of you newbies and not-so-newbies, make sure you make it (should it work out in your hectic playa schedules) to come by the annual Meet & Greet, 6 p.m. till 9, Thursday at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro, which is in Wheeeee!Ville. We're pretty hard to miss. Get a chance to actually meet some of these interesting folks you have been posting to. A really amazing experience.

I am a carpentry apprentice, i love all types of art and creating it myself; specifically drawing and sculpting. I like biking and other stuff as well. If you provide gas money for the six person camper were taking, we will get you there and back. Were planning on taking our time to get there, probably about three days on the road. Hi...My name is Mosley and people call me Mosley Motel because of a seedy motel in Rocky Mount, NC which had one of the last "Uniroyal Girls" out front. Quite a classic. I've always been curious about BM and now that I live in AZ, I'm really thinking about how wonderful it would be to attend. It looks absolutely wild...better than Mardi Gras, Halloween and all those great holidays rolled into one!!! Anyone who would care to share their experiences there to a new contemplating attendee, would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t belong here! How did I get talked into this! This is what I said my first time I came to this dusty Playa I now call home and am so glad to be welcomed here this year.

You see, I am considered “normal” by most people who think they know me in this small minded mountain town of Colorado. I own a large family restaurant, happily married with two lovely kids, involved in the chamber of commerce and was a youth pastor for fifteen years; but I now have a dark secret; I am a devote burner. From the moment I have emptied the vehicle with the last pile of dusty camping junk I am thinking of the next year I am welcomed home again.

My first year back from Burning Man I was on my way to work and literally broke down and cried as I slowly drove through my little town. I realized that I would not experience even a fraction of the love and acceptance that I felt among thousands of total strangers just a few days ago, and it would be another long year until I felt that again. It took me a good month to get over my loss and resolved to change the way I felt. I got over my sadness and committed to not look at this town and the hypocritical people here in the same way, it was up to me to be the change this place needed, like Bono said, “ I can’t change the world but I can change the world with in me”.

How I changed is this: I realize that we are only here for a short time and we are all here for a reason, not to wax philosophic here, but we are to inspire each other to be the best that we can be and to truly love with all of our heart soul, mind and strength. Most of what is wrong with us humans is that we hold on to the stuff that pisses us off or offends us and it usually lingers right under our thin shell. The more stuff that pisses us off the thinner our skin gets so we are are just pissed off all the time with everyone around us. What I have brought back with me is the ability to “burn” the stuff that pisses me off. Get rid of the crap that discourages or disappoints right away so you have the time and energy to work on the stuff that matters.

So, the end of this drivel is that I have found that what is “normal” is not always bad, but how we accept and treat our fellow man weather they be naked, painted, clothed or normal is what is the most important. So welcome all to Black Rock City and let them know that they belong here.

Just wanted to say I can totallly relate to what megladon2000says. I'm nervous, but since my initial to go with person, flaked, I'm getting my gear together and have connected with people who work at one of the sister companies I am employed with, locally in my home town, and in OR. I count the days till I am pulling my car out of the driveway and I know its loaded up and ready to hit the road....

CAN'T WAIT TO BE THERE.

If anyone is an Anon Salon goer in SF I'm looking for people to go to those events with.

Plenty of people fly it solo, tucker. Just pick a spot in the area not designated as "reserved for theme camps and villages" when you get there, and set up your camp. As a courtesy to your neighbors and future neighbors, try not to take up more real estate than is necessary. Things can get pretty crowded towards the end of the week, and putting an unnecessary amount of space, say between your tent and your car, or between your car and your shade structure, is akin to double parking in a very busy parking lot. Stop by the bar under open discussion and have a drink with us some time.

Welcome to Humanism. But I think that the idea that "I can't change the world" is based on a very selfish view of the world. Basically, the principle behind it is that your actions will not have a large or lasting enough effect to change YOUR world. Your behavior to a stranger is not going to substantially change your experience of the world. But here's the rub: it's going to have a huge change on HIS. You can and DO change the world, for others.

Maybe I'm alone here, but the stuff that pisses me off is the stuff that motivates and encourages me to change it. The first step towards fixing something is getting angry about it. And as a good friend of mine always used to say to me: "If you're not pissed off, you're not paying attention."

Wheeeeville! is not taking new campers, but will have some Australians, if there's a homesickness issue.

I am Sansouci (french for no worries), aka, Sanyo, and I've been to the Burn five times. I missed last year because I was pregnant with a beautiful baby girl burner. Yup, I got knocked up at a Burningman party, filled with my Burningman friends. My wonderful boyfriend, Steve, is now looking forward to his first Burn. We are both artists and love music, dance and all things HOT!!

and i'm a BM newbie too (there's a lot of us virgins on here, eh?). this year i'm punctuating a month-long Yukon roots-search with the celebration on the playa. I'm leaving in 14 days and I'm so excited I can't hardly breathe.

Here's the thing: I'll be driving from the Artic Circle down thru Whitehorse, YT and prolly Edmonton and Calgary and Idaho (or Montana and Wyoming if I have time) at the end of August

***sssoooooo**** if you know anyone who needs a ride from any of these places to Black Rock City email me at [email protected]. We can share gas and camping/hostel fees. This is a ONE WAY ride only as I am a perma-resident of Oakland (five-n-dime represent) but be forewarned I've been known to meander and take one-lane dirt roads and I will have come out of the Bush so might smell funny. Oh and I might have a dog but prolly not. I drive a strawberry red '95 subaru wagon and shouldn't have too much shit. I'm female (I always forget that that's not apparent by my name) around a quarter-century old. I say "hella". I'm Canadian by nature and Californian by nurture and I LOVE meeting new, wonderful people who won't expect me to entertain them but will appreciate putting my ipod on shuffle and doing the cartrip boogie.

Any suggestions on where else I can post to find riders will also be warmly appreciated.
