Chuck Pahlaniuk on the Playa?

Post by Fat SAM » Mon Jul 11, 2005 6:47 pm

I read an article in Rolling Stone about him the other day and there were some phrases that seemed placed almost as clues eluding to his possible Burner-dom. A friend of mine today brought to my attention also that in Fight Club (the book), Tyler and Jack meet up on a nude beach (or a playa) and that Tyler is sitting in a a circle of intricately and precisely placed logs, put together so that at the proper time of day, their shadow resembles a hand - clearly, an example of interactive art.

Anyway, has anyone else noticed the connection there?

And hey, Chuck, if you do come to Burning Man and you read the e-playa - don't stress on the celebrity thing. If you're into anonimity, that's cool. Fame shouldn't entitle others to bug a person all the time. Peace
Thanks to Addis, I had more free time.

Apparently, "Guts" made people in Italy vomit at readings. You've demonstrated greater intestinal fortitude than them.

Choke is really great too- about a guy who is addicted to faking choking in restaurants and having people 'save' his life, who then feel compelled to give him money and stuff. Awesome stuff about masturbation addicts, junkies, weirdo fetishists, historical reinactors, sexual addiction. His new novel is a horror about writing students away at a writing workshop.

Bit of a warning about Chuck. He's actually a Landmark graduate, summa cum laude member of Scientology lite. He credits it with starting his writing career. A sobering example of how even talented artists have their "ruin."

He did have a pretty f'd up childhood- sexually abused by his grandfather, watched his father kill his mother. I can kind of understand how someone with that kind of history would need to seek out a self-empowerment group to get things going for themselves. He didn't start writing until he was 31 as well.

I don't think that his father killed his mother. Where did you hear that from? I can't find any information on that. It says they got divorced and that is it.

Yeah, actually the father- killing- mother bit may be b.s., although my girlfriend swears she read an interview with Chuck where he talked about that. So I can't confirm it.
