Rest In Peace
suicide at BM
I lost a Burner friend to suicide last year. He had talked about overdosing at BM...atleast he would not feel so alone if he did it there he thought. We morbidly laughed sometimes at the thought of a suicide camp where he could find others willing to help him out and to be with him when he died. Instead he did it alone in secrecy and shame in his small town. What are your thoughts about assisted suicide, especially at BM?

No, No, No. That would be a big headache for the Emergency Services Department, for the Law Enforcement Agency Leisons, for the LLC itself. The press would be all over it in the worst way. Plus it's leaving a pretty large piece of moop (a human body) for someone else to take off the playa. Some of us already carry the deaths of Kathern Lampmen and the plane crash victims (I'm sorry, I don't remember thier names--anyone can add them) and the car crash on the road victims at or from the event, as a weight that the event carries. We expect that in time there will be more deaths. We hop e that homicide and suicide do not become part of the event.
BTW--reluctant as I am to make a diagnosis of 4 lines of type, I would say that is sounds as if your friend didn't need death so much as a good therapist and the proper drugs. I know a lot about major depression from various angles, and I'd say that assisting your friend would have been closer to murder than anything else. It sounds like he has more that 6 months to live--the Oregon standard adopted as the nearest available.

Sweet, wonderful Nipples
Hi everyone,
I am writing to let you know that Nipples, Peter Anderson, passed away.
The man in the bunny suit, riding the playa on the pike bike, a smile and conversation for everyone he met. A helping hand, and the kindest friend.
He was so wonderful..his silly dances, his beautiful work, the kindest heart...he is an angel now as he was on earth.
Rest in peace my dear friend. I love you so much and will miss you even more.

I'm at a loss for words.
I only met him in person briefly, but I thought he was a great person. So exceptional.

I just wanted to share this PM that I had recieved after meeting Nipples for the first time in person. It shows just what a generous spirit he had.
Hello, miss Blue.
I was thinking on the drive home from seeing you
that I would give you $5,000 for one year
if you would like to start your flea-market
business.
i believe in you
i want your dream to come true
you are my sister
So that is that. No strings attached.
Think about it, eh.

Nipples. I'm shocked. I'm saddened. I only knew you on this board, inspite of that you live on in my mind as a vivid, cheerfully creative, original intellect.
I will miss your posts. I will truly miss them. It also touches my heart to see the emotion poured out on this board. God bless you man and all your friends and all that knew you.

Lack of access to the old eplaya is hiding an enormous collection of wonderful haiku and other writings from nipples. Sure wish I and others could look back at that material right now. It's such a loss at this moment. Used to be at http://oldbbs.burningman.com.

I have felt this enourmous loss all week and have had to fight hard not to break down into tears constantly and I just couldn't figure out where it was coming from. When I heard Nipples had passed I knew why such a universe wide sadness had touched me.
