wow, what a nice community!
wow, what a nice community!
Badger, wow, my feelings are hurt, no really, they are.
Iso, I'm sorry, you're "definition" of legal drugs is not what I was referring to. Getting a prescription and giving it to someone else is in _no way_ legal, just as you point out. Over the counter remedies generally make claims to being medicines, and there are legal liabilities in giving those out as well. What I was thinking about giving out is not legally defined as a drug, is not illegal to posess, sell, or distribute in the US or most countries. Is relatively mild, with low risks for abuse/dependency/harmful side effects.
Now, frankly I'm surprised by the rudeness of most of you responding to this.
It's also interesting the amount of blatantly illegal activity that IS discussed on this board, the favorite drug at BM thread, anyone? PS, none of those were legal substances, oh yeah except "life".
Now, to everyone who voted "why not get high on life". Thank you, but I ask you instead "why not respect my decisions and I'll respect yours?"
There is little more offensive to me than those who do not respect my personal choices. I was (mis?)lead to believe that burning man was largely about radical self expression? I thought people were into developing a community that was very supported of individuals, and their choices?
Please, I would hope to raise awareness about legal alternatives to illegal drugs, that are safe and effective. I'm not trying to stop people from doing illegal drugs, but was trying so share something I found of value in this world, that has less risk legally, with like minded souls. Obviously, none of you are like minded, and I hope you're not surprised that I end this note feeling morally superior.

Statements like that are not the best way to bring people around to your way of thinking.and I hope you're not surprised that I end this note feeling morally superior.
I can see where you're coming from though....and your intentions are good but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Before you run away recoiling from Badger's ripsnorting posts he brings up some points that as a BM virgin you are not aware of yet. There's really a complex set of interactions between the event and the surrounding agencies that have to sign off on it to make it go. You're not aware of that stuff yet. But some of us are and we see your actions as a threat to the event we love. And the ferocity of the backlash should illustrate just how concerned we are.
Again I'm just one voice on here...but I hope you won't let this scare you off, that you will rethink your idea now that you know a bit more about the event and it's semi-hidden issues, and that you'll continue to post here. It has it's rough spots but the eplaya is really a good group of people once you learn more about us. We really are a nice community...you just need to take the time and get to know us.

Unfortunately, that happens around here more often that it should - welcome to the worst side of the eplaya.
Fortunately, you learn that not everyone is that way, and this board can be a poor representation of the larger event. I sincerely hope you stick around because you will find the whole thing is still the collective actions one of the greatest concentrations of absolutely fucking fantastic people.

Not quite....I don't think he is but while I was looking for the Usenet Troll FAQ, I found this little song that made me laugh....and think of Rex Scates and a few others I've come across.

TTTO Be Our Guest
Be a troll! Be a troll!
Let disruption be your goal -
Anything that you can do to draw attention to your role
Egoboo can be nice
Get your fix at any price
You can make entire newsgroups into clucking little birdcoops
Be a troll! Be a troll!
Pound their patience into coal
Tell the regulars they have no sense of flair
Insult their mothers too and their manners, pfoo!
Be a troll, be a troll, be a troll!
Make them burn, make them freeze
Sing of people scratching fleas
Snigger at the woes of others who are forced upon their knees
Stress and fear, jealous rage
Let them be your guiding gauge
Then accuse the quiet suckers all as nosy mother****ers
Don't be small, don't be tame
Show you have no sense of shame
Just enrage them til on stage the heads will roll
You love to shrill out flame, it's all a giant game
Be a troll, dig a hole, you're a troll.
Flaming dues, barbeques
Ought to wake 'em where they snooze
Don't forget to douse the fires with proof 307 booze
(song tangent) : 307 Ale my friends, 307 Ale!
The finest drink that any bar has ever had for sale!...
(ahem) Feed them slugs, feed them snails
Put their legs between their tails
And so what if you are hated cuz their nerves are really grated
When you leave, do salute
give that middle finger toot
And be proud of your achievements in your soul
For you have shown that they are evil in their way
You're a troll-l-l-l, says our poll-l-l-l, you're a troll-l-l-l!
(or, "a-ass-ho-o-o-ole!")

I wasn't on line this weekend, so you missed my rudeness too. Many of us on this board feel a certain responcibility (in my case, a certain ambivilent respocibility) to making sure that community guidelines (written and unwritten) are maintianed. We've seen trolls and baiters and idiots post all sorts of crap. (Someone want to create a hall of fame thread?) This is a community and it exists in a not completely welcoming world--therefore it must protect itself. If you think of those posts as a sharp kick under the table to keep you from making a fool of yourself in a complicated ettiquette situation where you don't understand the undercurrents, you might be closer to the "truth" of what some of the more experienced members of this board were doing. It was not nessesarily a rejection or refutation of you, but a very firm rejection of an idea that could mean trouble for us all.dougnaka wrote: Now, frankly I'm surprised by the rudeness of most of you responding to this.
One thing I've learned on this board is that their must be standards and understandings and it's not always "nice" how those are passed on and maintained. Suddenly, a whole lot of things about gossip and small towns become clearer. It's intensely human. Maybe there is a more graceful way of handling it, yet grace in the face of clear and present danger is not a common commodity. If you want to see the other side of the community, look in the past 10 or 15 page of the bar thread or the last two of the RIP thread. We morn our losses, just like a "real" community. And as someone who's socially inept, I have to say that if you spend a few weeks lurking and posting nice or witty but not real challanging to the group you'll be welcomed as a full fledged member. Your choice.

Re: wow, what a nice community!
Then I would suggest being completely open about it. Contact the Pershing County Sheriff ahead of time, and see what their take on it is. Also the BLM, and each of the other 14 or so Law Enforcement Agencies that are at BM. Register a theme camp where you tell the Borg what you intent to do, and convince THEM it is harmless (and seek their blessing). Have printed material with each sample that has all the stuff regular drugs do (what is is, where it comes from, dosage, contra-indications, possible side effects, where you are camping and what your real name is, ect). And discuss this all with an Attorney first.dougnaka wrote:Badger, wow, my feelings are hurt, no really, they are....(snip)
Getting a rise out of Badger like that is kind of a badge of shame on Eplaya - he rarely speaks out, but it has been my experience that when he does it rings of truth. Rather than feel hurt, use the emotional energy to figure out why everyone reacted so negatively, then re-engage in a positive fashion.
(snip...) It's also interesting the amount of blatantly illegal activity that IS discussed on this board, the favorite drug at BM thread, anyone? (...snip)
For the most part, serious drug discussions get slammed harder than yours did (they really have no place here on the "official" BM site...try Tribe instead for that stuff) and those that remain are "in jest", and obviously not to be taken seriously...(snip)
Please, I would hope to raise awareness about legal alternatives to illegal drugs, that are safe and effective...(snip)
Even public food camps come under intense scrutiny at BM (and food is more inocuous than mysterious pills, both of which are "legal"). Many get shut down for violating Health Laws. Know what the law requires of you if you do this BEFORE coming to BM...and be absolutely clean in every other respect...

Why would you even talk about drugs on a public family oriented bbs board . And to quote my grandmother (who was wise beyond her years) "If everybody else jumps off the bridge are you going to too?"
Are u a cop, dougnaka? we get a lot of those here. Thinking that very same thing. Trust me all that shit you hear is myth.
It's a fucking camping trip.
