Too bad it's a little misleading.
"Needless to say, there's no state or city department of streets - let alone streets - to clean things up, so the people from the festival itself do the work. They start right after the festival winds down, cleaning everything from plastic bags to bent nails to costume sequins off the clay-like surface of the playa."
No mention that participants are supposed to make sure their own areas are clean when they leave.

Something to keep in mind:

Up to 70 BLM police alone. I wonder how that equates in terms of LEO per capita compared to the real world.
Also found the cost-per-day-per-person thing interesting: " $4 per day per person attending..." That's a sizeable chunk of your ticket cost right there; still a bargain in terms of land use, esp considering the holiday weekend.
