We do remind you of one thing: just because you don't make it to BRC does NOT mean you're not at Burning Man...use your imagination, and do something "playa" next week, no matter how small it seems. You'll be right here with us in spirit.

I saw this in a JRS and thought maybe I'd ask what those of us who are not going this year plan to do while the man burns.

I know Joel is going to Florida. Bucket is organizing his own burn -- http://www.burningsquid.com -- Anyone else?

IMHO, regionals are the future of BurningMan. I've heard of a number of experienced burners who've already forsaken the big burn for their local hijinks. Way to show us how it's done. What you're doing, B.H.A., is getting in on the ground floor of something that could be huge.

we're going to do a burn at ocean beach, take the playa cruiser bikes out for public ride, who knows...
tonight we're having beers between 7 - 7:30 at murio's Trophy Room on Haight St. (birthday beers that is).

shit, I'm just gonna have to wade through the seas of Monsanto corn to visit you Joel. Why don't you guys do the burn for 3 days? (anybody can do anything for 3 days) visit the bay area, Yosemite, Big Sur, Monterey, The wine counrty, Kayak the Golden Gate with cowboyangel......soak up Blue State vibes.....it'll be good for ya both!

I'm not going. Not sure exactly what I'm going to be doing during Burn Week, most likely the same ol' same ol' with a Playa twist. Paint the horse's hooves with glitter and braid EL wire into his mane. Playa it up at the Saturday Market booth. Possibly invite some friends over to do some firespinning and a barbecue on the Willamette River beach by my place on Sunday.

The Burning-Singles group is planning a get-together in Seattle for massage, martinis and dinner at a tiki bar but I probably won't go. Yeah, I know, I'm going to be working on Burn Saturday, but I'll try to make it even Burnier than it usually is — and working a crafts fair booth on Burn Saturday is a heck of a lot Burnier than sitting in a cubicle, so it's fun work!

Well, I had hoped to go to my first Burn this year, but it really looks unlikely. My (now former) chief steward and I have had nothing but trouble trying to get AFSCME to do anything about my greivances. Marty Beil seems to be reluctant to actually DO anything which might jeprodize his posistion. Plus, since I was a low level employee, the union management seems to have no real interest in how the hospital treats us. (Heck, this probably is reflected in unions in general! Anything WINS talks about hospital employees on the radio, they never seem to mention anyone lower ranked than a technician-- and technicians are mentioned MUCH less frequently than the nurses!)

Anyway, I might end up suing the union. I haven't really been able to pursue this, since I am also trying to find a better job than the bagger job I have been working at. (I am rather handicapped, since potential employers seem to be suspicious when I try to explain that the hospital terminated me after leaving me to cool my heels for a month and a half without pay, rather than return me to my former supply clerk job. It seems that most companies find it hard to believe that someone would be terminated for being one point over Risk Management's limit on points on a driving record. Especially at an employer perpetually advertising for workers.)

Sorry for the rant. I have had a rather bad day all around. Especially when I discovered I needed to clean the stall in the Men's restroom....

Could someone put a really nasty curse on the leadership of the current Bush Administration for me? That might improve my mood. (If not, maybe that is how I will celebrate Burning Man... hmm....)

I just drove from California to West Virginia and back down to North Carolina. The only way I am getting into a vehicle again for that long a haul is if someone drugs me, ties me up, throws me in the back seat and kidnaps me. Even then, I'd jump out the window.

I'm doing a regional this year down here in NC. During the BM week, I'm heading to Cape Hatteras with a cooler full of wine/beer & my tent. I'll probably wear a sarong, put on a crazy hat, and get hammered on the Saturday evening. I'll toast to the moon and think of y'all with a smile on my face.

I sympathize. My wife isn't interested in the whole "middle of the desert, poor bathing facilities, risk of life and limb" scene. And I also find it difficult to cut out for more than a week without her. She says I can go some day, but we'll see.

I'm almost thinking of trying to make it. I know, it's two months to go, little late to start planning, but I have seven Burns under my belt and I know what I'm doing and my camp and personal infrastructure is all kitted out and in one place. As far as participation I can just make myself Lil' Miss Help-Around-the-Camp and/or volunteer for the Lamplighters.

Why the change of heart? Well, things have taken a serious turn for the Babylonian and I'm thinking that I'm gonna need to decompress from Default Camp in the worst way by the time Lughnasadh rolls around. This last weekend I got smacked over the head with sociopolitical reality when the rodeo came to town. It was all trailer trash, conservativism, draconian responses to prankage, commercialism and low-brow music. I want to forget that the guy who told Georgie Boy that torture is okay is in line for a Supreme Court nomination, restraining orders against your abusive boyfriend is merely a polite suggestion, and you don't really own your land, you just lease it from the bank until Wal-Mart wants it.

I have been looking forward to going to BM this year and taking my eldest daughter who is 12, but due to unforseen circumstances, I am extremely pregnant with twins which are due in Oct and I am going through a divorce at the same time! Dam! I was looking forward to this years BM. I was still going to attend but I have been diagnosed with a high
risk pregnacy and my RH factor is positive so I could loose the twins if I am not careful. Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hon, I'm really not trying to poo-poo on your ideas of going to BM this year, but from experience, I gotta tell ya... When I was pregnant with my Sammi, I was a high-risk and diabetic and there is no fucking way in hell or heaven that I would have risked it to go to BM during that time. Well, there was no BM during that time, but still.... BRC is a harsh environment, pregnant or unpregnant...especially so if you are a high-risk pregnancy and have an RH factor. I'm no doctor, but I work in the medical field, OK? and -- if it were me and I was in your place (but that's just me, OK? Your mileage may vary....) I would stay home. But I'm serious. Your babies are important. And you are important. Your health is important. And that's not to say BM isn't important. That's just my 2 cents, anyway. BM will be back next year. And then you can enjoy it with 3 of your babies...and so can we with you!!

I am very sad. I regret to inform my burning buddies that I will not be at BRC this year. I will, however, be there in spirit. This is my last semester in College and I must get through it. I'm still collecting more BM stuff for next year. Today I found my respirator. What a treat is was to strap in on and breath that sweet Playa Dust scent. I have been to BM 3 times and am experiencing severe withdrawals. My friends do not understand this. I know you do. I have a close dear friend who I've always gone there with will be going there this year. He says he will place a love letter to me at the Temple. Oh goodness, another friggin tear. Must stop this madness. I cannot wait for next year. If you come to BM in 2006 and see a young maiden rolling around in the playa dust like an unleashed beast, that will be me. Oh, Larry Harvey, thank you for the wonderful experience. sniff sniff.
