Electric Scooters
Electric Scooters
What have peoples experience been with using Electric Scooters on the Playa. I'm recovering a broken arm and my playa bike is a too unstable.
I'll be camping on the grid, so power at my camp won't be a problem, but I was wondering if full charge is enough for an evening out. And has finding place while you are out and about to charge up a problem?

I use a cheap electric scooter for a disable ride. I fall over now and then. So I put training wheels on it. You wont need those?? I went to a sports store that sell trolling motors. The batteries are the same size as the scooters. I put a double throw double pull switch in line. So the I can run /charge eather set. Give you enough runing to have a little fun. I managed to get about two full charges off a car battery and inverter. Have much better set up this year. If you decide to go this way PM me. I'll help you with the wireing.
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

There's some sort of rule (that I can never remember) about either seats or no seats being required on the scooters. Check on the main site, or maybe Koosh can tell you if she reads this. I do know that Technopatra, who ran this board for a year or so used a scooter on the playa because of a knee injury. YOu might also want to contact MrFixit who runs a camp that loans out wheelchairs for the diabled. (only a few hours at a time--more clientele than chairs) You might also want to use the search function to look up disabilty and or scooter.

~ oops, I forgot about the resiger thing for disable. If you bring a scooter just to give yourself a ride. It must be a stand up type. If you are disabled then preregister a scooter with a seat. The scooters at Mr Fixit are electric wheelchairs. In those cases the person is must likely profoundly disabled. For a broken arm on the mend you will more than likely be ask to walk instead of ride. Looks like you will have to walk this year. One wing on a stand up scooter would not work well. Keep trying K?

Scooters may be way more dangerous than your playa bike. My campmate "HE WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS" seriously injured himself on my little electric scooter within the first 5 minutes of arrival at BRC a couple of years ago. Of course, the fact that he was already heavily celebrating our arrival on playa may have been a contributing factor.

The rule for scooters is, if it has motor and a seat, it needs a DMV license to operate at Burning Man. The DMV also hands out disable permits, but this year (because of abuse) is only giving permits to those with state placards.theCryptofishist wrote:There's some sort of rule (that I can never remember) about either seats or no seats being required on the scooters.
