D-cell battery charger?

Post by HughMungus » Tue Aug 09, 2005 7:06 pm

Got one of those fluorescent camp lanterns that runs on d-cells. I don't buy any batteries anymore unless they're rechargable and was wondering if price matters much on chargers. I found a universal charger (AAA, AA, C, D, 9v) for about $16 and was wondering if there's something I should be looking for in a charger.

Go for Nimh's!

Post by XS » Tue Aug 09, 2005 11:04 pm

What's up Dallas?

I'd stay away from NiCad, (NickelCadmium) and go for NiMh's (Nickel Metal Hydride) They hold a charge longer. and have greater potential to recharge many more times than NiCad's. There is a difference in their basic chemistry, so no matter what, the charger should match the batteries you wish to use.

I already got all my Nimh's charged and ready to rock. I still buy some standard Alkaline batt's, cuz if ya juice runs out of the Nimh's you still got back ups!

Re-use what ya can, recylce what ya can't.

See ya out there bro.

I once heard that they don't keep their charge (just idle) for more than a few days or a week. So I thought not to charge them until just before going.

Charge 'em up!

In some cases, true. Heat, humidity contribute.

Actually I'm in the process of recharging everything, in cycles. Rech. batt's, my elec. art-car, cordless drill, I even have one of those solar panels and inverter storage. But you can plug that son'bitch in the wall to charge it before ya get all dusty.

Is it time to leave yet?

Any rechargeable battery will self drain over time, no matter what type. Charge them up before you leave for the playa. Unless they are really old, they will still have a charge if you need them at week's end.

Perhaps you guys should look into those solar powered battery charger (for AA's, C's, D's, etc...)

Hey XS.

Thanks for the info.

So I assume any charger is basically as good as any other. I'll be looking into solar, too.

p.s. Do you know where you'll be camped? I don't yet but I'll be registered at Playa Info as DallasPlaya. Seeya soon!

Yeah Man.

We'll be camped at 4:00 and Hysteria. We'll be hosting an activity, Bald head Decorating Camp. Serving Chilled Champagne. Should be fun.

Let me know we're you'll be. We toast some ice cold ones brother!

Hell yeah. Nice camp idea! hahahaha. Starting my "people to go visit" list right now.

Anyway to answer my own question, I picked up a universal charger today at Target for $19.95 (in case anyone else is looking for one).
