Hey- What's up with "Survivor- Tikal"? How the HELL did CBS get clearance to shoot in the ruins? (Or are they "fake" ruins?)

The other day, I was driving and I pulled along side a girl's car that had a BRC sticker on it. It was warm and we both had our windows rolled down, so I just shouted, "BLACK ROCK CITY! RIGHT ON!" She smiled and I drove off. Ahhhh, that was fun, and it made me happy to see a fellow burner.

What is it about the 90 day point? I mean, all year I'm excited of course...but once the countdown is less than 90 days I start going nuts with anticipation. Ahhhh, I can't wait!

Actually, not IN Tikal....a few miles away. But still in a national park, amidst Mayan ruins! Here's an article...

i think it's fairly safe to say that i will definitely [b]not[/b] be running into any fellow burners here. i'm in a small town in south korea right now, and i have to say that it's one of the most conservative, conformist, repressed cultures there is (i know this from personal experience, and from talking to korean friends)
this is my first burn, and i'm sooo excited, but i think it will be even more of a headtrip to go from a place where i am now, to the complete opposite brc.

The real trip will be going from BRC back to conformityville. Good luck on the transition. It was hard enough coming back to San Francisco.

well, after burning man i'll be going back to victoria, canada, which i call home, and it's got a pretty good group of burners there, so am stoked about that.

I run into several burners every year at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. Some start conversations with me because of my Alien Love Nest pendant, but i seem to keep bumping into the same Israeli woman that i actually know from Burning Man. Shot pictures of her the year we were at Fly.

In our walks around the neighborhood I have seen no less than 3 vehicles with some sort of "official" BRC sticker on them... More with what I suspect to be playa dust (shoulda tased it to be sure, but then they'd call me a bumper-licker!)... plus around the corner from my semi-local pizza pub was a P/U with DPW stickers. So they're out there, just gotta meet 'em!

We're going to sell our jeep and it has plenty of unofficial burner decals and stickers. I can just picture it if a non-burner acquires our vehicle and doesn't scrape anything off. "Burner? Burning Man? Did I buy this from an arsonist?"

I had one of those giddy moments last week when I was crossing the street near my home and there was a truck with Ranger Seals! Much waving to the indifference of the driver. Hey, we're not that snotty to the people who wave to our ESD seasl. Maybe we should go drive around Bay Bridge Sue's 'hood just to haunt her...

I know that it was jumping the gun, but I actually teared up this morning when I thought about the first morning that I will have to go back to work after being on the playa. I work in a shop in a very conservative shopping area. And my boss just doesn't get it at all.

Coming back to reality last year we saw tons of cars on the drive who you could tell were coming from BRC so we honked and waved at everyone... sad thing not everyone cared or Acknowledged us. OH Well...

I've meet a few random people at bars who were burners...I met the most awesome people a few weeks ago when we bought there tickets, so sad they couldn't make it out this year but now were good buddies :)

i saw a guy and his son in a van covered in playa dust at a gas station. as i walked by i said "looks like you were at burning man" and the guy laughed and said 'yeah, it starts next month, but thats where we were'.

almost forgot....i belong to a reefkeeping forum (for people who have saltwater reef tanks). part of the little blurb by your avatar states what other interests you have and there is a guy there who goes to burning man :) we sent a few pm's but he's not able to go this year, due to a pending wedding that weekend (his)

I've noticed the same thing. It used to make me feel weird, but you know, there's always that percentage of people who never want to see the playa again, etc.

I always feel somewhat wistful on the way back when I turn into the smaller roads in the Sierra and face the fact that I have probably seen my last dust-covered car. And then I abandon myself to the tender mercies of synchronicity...

I haven't bumped into any burners but I have a list of about 6 people that want to camp with me next year... and this is my virgin year... I wish environmentalism and social acceptance spread like this... hey wait... maybe they are! Damnit, BM is going to become my life, I can fel it...

Just two days ago some CalTrans vehicles were parked infront of our house. I stepped out to ask what they were doing and the tall guy sez:
"Who's the burner?" -
He had seen the BRC sticker on the back of my van.
Within minutes we were exchanging playa addresses and making plans to visit eachother. It was so cool to know we were "family" in just seconds.
As it turns out, all the guys on his crew were tired of hearing about his plans for this year.
A few years back we called our camp KalTramps.
Soon I had the guy and his workmates sitting in the shade picking berries and looking at pictures of our ' 02 camp all scantily clad in orange with all sorts of traffic paraphinallia - they were cracking up!
