Help! Any ideas on how to make a longlasting torch wick?

Post by seluronking » Sun Aug 14, 2005 2:22 pm

I need help finding a good longlasting wick material and fuel for a flame thrower that I'm making (for my costume). I've seen many out there over the years, but don't know what folks use. I need it to last in the wind while we are walking around...ideas???
Thanks!

I'd be truly impressed if you could incorporate this http://img14.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img14&im ... street.jpg into your costume.

Check out Roland Tower's little teenage idea here: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showth ... genumber=1

In the old days they used to use asbestos for wicks that had to last a long time (aka- everburning lamps). Might be hard to get these days (but think of an asbestos flamethrower...) Maybe try a metal wool compressed and lightly wrapped in wire?

For a regular type torch I think you might want to go with kerosene. Maybe even parafin soaked material dipped in kero.
