Glue mylar to pants?

Would it be possible to glue some pieces of mylar to a pair of pants? Thinking about getting one of those mylar emergency "blankets" and decorating some old pants with it. Would this work?

Would your nickname become "Nipsey Rustle" or "Kris Krinkle"? I've thought about gluing spaceblanket to various things, but I find that plastic-grocery-bag-noise POWERFULLY annoying. GOOP adhesive'd do the trick, though. Squeegee it onto the mylar and then QUICKLY apply to the fabric, as a thin layer sets up very quickly. Smooth out and let set overnight, to be sure.

Another alternative to goop is good old 3m adhesive spray. Easy spray and go with relatively fast drying. We used it to attach fabric to some boring parts of our bike. Held well all year in the elements. (Don't leave your playa bike outside all year. I had to get most of the bike rebuilt.) So I'll be glueing some more on this year ... using the 3m spray adhesive.

I duct taped some mylar to the canvas cover on my bike trailer to keep the cooler .. well .. cooler. I just reinspected it recently expecting to have to replace it. Alas it is still holding well. Quite noisey stuff though. I'm not sure I'd want to hear the crinkling all day.

I think I read a post last year about some pants made from mylar. The poster mentioned not being able to hear anything unless he/she was standing still. Should keep you warm though.

The site I referenced above does indicate that the 3M spray adhesive is best for fabric to platic (which is what mylar is). The guy who built our shade structure last year used large mylar sheets as the main shade element. Worked great, but was noisy as hell.

What's that silvery stuff that they make car windowshade/reflectors out of? just silver stuff or mylar?

Didn't someone have a mylar suit and find that it sort of broke where the joints were?

or, what you could do is find yourself some shiny ass fabric that is polite and quiet and just fucking duct tape it together. no, i'm serious. you just say fuck the sewing, fuck the glue and all that smelly shit, it's all about the duct tape.

you just cut out your pieces, you can copy the shapes from a pair of pants you like, and then you just use duct tape for the seams. works like a charm, but the crotch is a bit bulky...we wore 'em though, and they're still going this year, fashionable, and durable too.

and no stinky glue!

oh, and duct tape does come in all colors, like for instance the guys in our camp really liked the hazard tape for their seams, you know, the yellow and black stripe moment. you can also get checkerboard, and every color known to man, including daglo, but don't go there! just kidding...duct tape is fun! try it!

I once covered an entire jumpsuit in Mylar, it would have been perfect had I been, oh I dunno walking around a frozen tundra or something. Seriously, you will die of heat stroke. But then again, fashion is really about looking good, not feeling good.

There ARE several kinds of shiny, aluminized fabric out there...I made a top for the smallest dome of the Snowman from plasticky, shiny material designed to be used as a photographic reflector. Still non-porous, though, just like mylar, and as Chai observed you WILL suffer. But a quick trip to a fabric store will reveal several viable options. Plus, it's always fun being a guy in a fabric store, at least here in the Manly Midwest. You'd think I'd just walked into the ladies' room!
I've also found superchunky rolls of bright silver duct tape at our local Chinese Tool And Tarp Outlet for cheap.
