I concur! I would not have posted had I known it would start a vicious cycle of character assassinations and presupposed assumptions. Now, lets get back to thinking how to make the experience better for all whom we encounter. Thank you for the input.

Gosh, yes, sorry I oppressed you by critiquing your weak and indefensible philosophical position. I do love the way in which you engage in character assassination under the guise of protesting it. Can you ever forgive me, and would you like some cheese with that whine?
Sure, it's a cliche, but then, so's your article.
Re: Camp bitch session
This has come up in Santa Fe on ocassion, usually in the context of a fatal disease. Those people are cruel and lacking in compassion. I would have nothing to do with them.jbelson wrote: In responce, I get questions on where my energy is, what I'm doing to bring that kind of karma into my world. One response reads "Getting something stolen is not in my energy, Vibration, or thoughts. So I dont have those experiences".
And another "I find for myself stealing comes more from the energy one generates within themselves than any outside source".
And the recomendation "Lets get out there and create the reality/space/zone that we want. we can do it."

I grew up in a very rough redneck area in the fifties.
I lived in a post WWII society with an obviously German
first and last name. My parents were 1st generation Americans, and my father even served in the US Army and fought the Nazi`s in Germany.
The general public was very distrustful of German people in those days...
...I know all about getting my ass kicked every day...
...on the way to school, while in school, on the way home and just being at a park or in the neighborhood.
...It wasn`t just the kids....the parents egged them on....
...I know about Hate
...I know about prejudice
...I know the idiotic way people band together to
make themselves feel superior to others not in their group.
..I learned many many hard lessons in that environment..
...The hardest part was getting the loving advice from my
sweet, ultra-religious parents that I should "turn the other cheek" or
"pretend that I didn`t hear the taunts....or to just smile and not let
them see that it hurts me....just like Jesus would have done"...
...which, "in theory" is a very noble thing,....unless you want to hang on to your skin....
...so, eventually, through many hard trials, I also learned...
...how to break a nose from 30 different angles of attack.
I still consider myself a very loving, trusting,....caring person....
...But....
I am a firm believer in Karma.
Following the laws of Karma does NOT always mean being passive
We all are travelling on our OWN paths.
If someone on their particular path chooses to collide
with me on my journey, then that IS his Karma.

So, finally I arrive on the playa after 3 flat tires on my tent trailer in the mojave dessert. I get there sun. morning, set up our camp. It's hot. Then, when our camp is set up, I go over to help with the rest of the village. there was a dome, stage, entry way and a bunch of stuff. I'm going on 4 random hours of sleep from the previous 2 nights. So I'm here, helping set up others peoples camps, mostly cause it's fun. you know, after months of prep, it's go time. While setting up the other camp, I see the girl that first questioned my "Vibrations". I didn't get a chance to say hi as I was pounding rebar and holding up metal conduit. She was prancing around in next to nothing (She's a hottie). So, as I'm building her camp, she ignpres me. Later that day, I get a minute, I see her and go up to her and say hi. I get a "oh hey", then I give a hug, and awkward silence for a minute. then I say, well, gotta get back to building your camp, and go to work.
So after all this talk of vibrations, and a rather weird phone call that she placed to me a week before, I get the worst vibration ever.
I realize those that talk are full of shit.

The LA Forum Cult
Oh JB, I feel your pain!
I have to confess that I LMFAO when I found out you guys got stuck in the Forum Cult village. I could not resist and had to come over to heckle everyone. It was a blast. As they say: "When in Rome, do as the Vandals".
If it is any comfort to you at all, everyone in Phoenix got ambushed with that one. It was an honest mistake and the involved parties are suffering the same anti-harmony rash as you have endured.
We had a few Forum heads in our theme camp a few years back and let me tell you, it was a fricking blast antagonizing them. Next time, just unplug, unwind, and dish out some good ol' fun on 'em. Makes a world of difference and now, they owe you!

Even worse than bullshit...I call solopism! That's the scariest, worst, least thought out philosophical stance of all...Very bad. Bad. Ask Shirley McClaine...stuart wrote:Constant mental focus with extreme intention can create our reality.
give me a cite for that. Until then, I am calling bullshit.
All that fuzzy wuzzy shit about I'm not creating theft in my reality is nice, but it's hilarious to watch that same person when someone else "creates theft in their reality." There's nothing like an angry hippy run amok or in a total funk because they can't figure out why something happened without their metaphysical input. Talk about egotism.
I spent a decade working on "creative visualization" and all that shit and what I got was the assertive realization that if I wanted something, I might have to act to have it rather than "visualize it into my reality." The same goes for bad vibes, negative experiences, etc...Random acts occur; sometimes we like them, sometimes we don't.
Instead of working on not bringing theft into your reality, try detaching the importance of material possessions.
Thanks to Addis, I had more free time.
Re: The LA Forum Cult
Apparently, when the first of the projekt hit the playa, they found out what the whole thing was about, a kind of spirituality pyramid or something like that with different levals or something. All I know is I had a great time with my group. They did have a really nice dome though with an awesome light fixture hanging from the ceiling. But not everyone understood my sarcasm and playfullness, but I also heard those same people were working thru a lot of issues on the playa, whatever that means. They should have just tried to have fun, thats usually the best approach.Token wrote:Oh JB, I feel your pain!

not really bitching
If I am reading Observer right, the notion of karma s/he is railing against is not the "original" one, but an oversimplification. Given its apparent metaphysical basis in some variant of the concept of Indra's net, the notion of karma might work better for modern Westerners if it were explicitly linked with Jung's thinking on synchronicity. What a wonderfully convenient philosophy, if one happens to be a sociopath. Nothing that you do to anybody else can be wrong, because whatever the impact your actions on him may be, you know that they will be beneficial, so every action, no matter how mailicious, becomes a favor done to whoever one touches, even if one is touching them with the business end of a bayonet. Which points to what is truly assinine about the whole concept of karma to begin with - and by this, I mean the original concept, not the fluffy bunny giddiness of the New Age.
Supposedly, the apparently innocent sufferer was getting exactly what he (or she) deserved, as retribution for misdeeds done in a past life which he (or she) couldn't remember. But if at any given point in time, those being harmed were being given nothing worse than their just desserts, meaning that those inflicting the harm inflicted nothing worse than justice on those suffering, then at what point did anybody have the opportunity to do any wrong, and thus accumulate any negative karma? Put this into a New Age context, and the only change is that instead of asking about actions in a past life, we're asking about actions in the more immediate past of one's present life.
Maybe putting karma and synchronicity in one sentence sounds like the fluffiest of New Age thinking, but to avoid a tedious rehearsal of the intermediate steps, I will just state my view that HOW one thinks these now-popular notions is far more important to understanding than whether some people who use these words are turning the larger conversation nonsensical by playing fast and loose with reality.
BTW, this year's burn was overall so good, I can't imagine wanting to create a bitching kind of intentionality. A limitation I will happily live with in the enduring afterglow.

Funny you should mention. About 5 minutes before the flat tire thing, my passenger and I were joking about this very same situation, even making bad vibration references. So when it went flat, we lookead at eachother and questioned what kind of vibrations the other was giving out to give us a flat tire. It was a running gag the whole drive.stuart wrote:that is because you are a bad personI arrive on the playa after 3 flat tires
Now some might think that the tire thing might have been a bad consequence of it all, but it was actually a good thing. In all my BM prep, the trailer got neglected for the camp stuff. All the tires were pretty crappy on the trailer and went flat in the heat of the day in the mojave. I was bummed until a friend pointed out the fact that they were going flat now, sot that they wouldn't on the drive home, where I had to be back in time to make a flight out to my wedding a few days later.
