How does the Directory work?

Post by s5 » Fri Aug 19, 2005 12:39 am

i have a question about how the directory works in center camp.

do we need to be an officially registered theme camp to be in the directory, or can we register our camp in the directory when we get there?

our group is planning on doing "walk in" camping - we didn't register in time. but since we don't know our exact location, we still need a way to meet up. is that the purpose of the directory?

i'm used to just meeting up at the pre-arranged theme camp location, so i've never actually used the directory or any of the information services in center camp.

Yes, you can add yourself to the directory on-playa, and others can look you up based on the name of your camp, or a name of any member of your camp (which you can add to your listing).
“We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.”

Yup.. anyone can add their camp or their own name. I suggest you be very clear ahead of time exactly what the name is and how it's spelled. Also, register the camp name plus all of the names of the group just in case they have trouble finding one.

Lastly, agree on a general location ahead of time so worst case the other members can just park their car and wander around looking for you.
